A Great Horned Owl Rescue 🦉

Officer Kelly who freed the owl from a soccer net

Woah!! Last Thursday, kids at Southeastern Elementary’s soccer field became wildlife heroes by calling the Fishers PD out to help save a Great Horned Owl they found trapped in the nets.

Officer Kelly arrived, snipped the nylon, and shuttled the unhurt raptor to the Avian & Exotic Animal Clinic in Indy. Nothing has been shared on his condition - but based on this pic he appears in good shape 😂

Geist is just a little gross rn 😷

When we get a lot of rain or heat, Geist is almost always due to have high levels of E.coli. This heat wave has been no exception. The following are at unsatisfactory levels:

  • Fall Creek at Geist Park (10800 Florida Rd.)

  • Fall Creek at Canal Place (14400 Geist Ridge Dr.)

  • White River (6100 Wahpihani Dr.)

The good news is that Geist Waterfront Park currently passes Fishers’ testing. However, it is Geist, so take care of yourself! Always check before you go. It's still hot, and rain and storms are forecasted for next week. If you want to learn more, go to the Fishers Health Department website, where they check and take these water samples and put out alerts when there's trouble.

A Hidden Gem 💎 + Ribbon Cutting Mochi Joy Donuts

Pictured: Choc+raspberry, glazed, blueberry+lemon Yes’cers donut 🏀

Mochi Joy snips their grand opening ribbon today, Wednesday at 1 pm (8664 E 96th St.). First 50 attending will get a half-size birthday cake mochi mini on the house.

If you’re new: mochi donuts are rice-flour rings. Chewy-light, crisp on the edge, and pretty perfect with coffee. Think of them as a cousin to a regular donut.

Since their opening in January, they’ve kept 12 everyday flavors rolling, plus six fresh ones each week, all while turning the shop into a community hangout with weekend maker pop-ups.

I’ve already “tested” the place more times than I care to admit. I’m sick, I know. There’s just something so fun about everything they do here.

🍩 Take this as your sign to try them out this summer if you’re after a different kind of treat. Hours are 7 am—8 pm weekdays and 8 am weekends. Better pictures and fun are at mochijoydonuts.com.

Hiro Hibachi is back in action 🧑‍🍳

A few months ago, a car crashed into Hiro Hibachi Express and Sushi, shutting down their business until they could rebuild.

Well, the wait is over. They are reopening today better than ever.

Since I’ve never been, Google describes them as a “Fast-casual Japanese hibachi & sushi in a relaxed setting.” With 490 nearly 5-star reviews, I bet they’re a solid choice if you’re looking for either. I’ll be trying them and you should too! You’ll find them at 13204 Market Square Dr, Fishers, IN 46038

Rapid Fire Hits

Quick headlines and things to know from all around 🌐

Wondering when the Olio Road construction will end? Wednesday, July 2nd. Only one week left! Fun fact is this road is more or less seen as a highway and maintained by Hamilton County, not Fishers. Which is why the details for the construction are on the county site. And also my defense on why this wasn’t shared previously in a newsletter. (Hamilton County News)

Anyone know what’s up with Barry Bagels? I’ve had a few folks ask why they’ve been randomly closed the past week. If you do and can share, I’d love to share the reason why with those asking!

Tons of new laws go into effect on July 1st. Here is a list that will catch you up. (WTHR)

With over 100 points scored, the Fishers Freight finally snapped their losing streak against the Green Bay Blizzard with a walk-off touchdown. (Fishers Freight)

Labeled a “work of art and engineering”, the Geist Greenway Bell Ford Covered Bridge is now open and free for you to enjoy. You’ll find it right at the intersection of 104th St and Florida Rd. Looking for a nice activity loop? The AgriPark is right across the street! (IndyStar)

HSEngaged applications for the ‘25-26 cohort are open until July 7. What is this? A community engagement program to teach you all the inner workings of how the school system works here. (Applications)

Noblesville is adding new cityscapes, like curbless sidewalks, parallel parking spaces, and plenty of lights and tree plantings to help make downtown Noblesville more walkable. (Current)

🎆Fireworks are legal to use in Fishers again starting June 29th (Sunday). Between 5 pm and 2 hours after sunset. July 4 has special rules where it’s mostly allowed all day. Here is the full list of rules and ordinance. (Code Library)

Two text scams are rampant right now. Don’t fall victim to either. One is people pretending to be a police officer, using real local names. The other is a text from the BMV asking you to pay an “outstanding traffic ticket”. Stay safe! (Fox 59)

Thanks!

If you found something useful, please send this to someone who is ready for the 4th of July.
