The Digest

Community Center moving forward

One big thing: The $60m community center at 121st and Hoosier Road is full steam ahead.

Last Monday, City Council approved an annexation for the land the future community center will be built on. This is a key step towards the 2025 opening date.

Here are just a few of the facilities the community center will have:

  • 5,300-square-foot indoor playground

  • Aquatics facility

  • 18,600-square-foot gymnasium (with basketball/pickleball courts)

  • Clinical rooms and offices for the Fishers Health Department

  • Childcare facility

  • Multipurpose rooms

  • Public gathering spaces

  • Café

Fishers Tigers Santa Band

The Fishers Tiger Band knocked it out of the park at the 2023 Macy’s Day Parade. They were given the most desirable spot for all the bands — the Santa Band. Meaning they were the last to play before Santa’s appearance.

Check out the video here to see their full performance in the parade. Congratulations!

Trash 🚮

One big thing: City managed trash conversations for Fishers will start in January 2024.

This conversation happened almost 10 years ago. Back when Fishers was a town, the idea of town-managed trash was explored. That clearly never happened. It was shot down almost immediately.

Today, the pendulum has flipped almost entirely the other way. Based on our small (but important!) sample size of 220 responses to a poll. This is what the votes came out to:

  • 89% voted yes to city managed trash

  • 11% voted no

It’s interesting to think had we run this poll before WM acquired Ray’s if the results would have been the same, or completely different. It’s hard to say.

If you want to hear my full convo with the mayor and city, here’s the vid 💯
