🍻🍀 Happy early Birthday to Carter Barnes! May your weekend be as lucky as we are to have you. Cheers!

🚧 Sorry for the confusion on Tuesday. There is already a roundabout at 106th Street and Cumberland Road. It seems my brain is wired to automatically think construction = roundabout. I may need to get checked. They are building a bridge in the area. Thank you to those who pointed it out!

The Digest

Have you heard of the old Kincaid House?

Rendering of the Kincaid House at the roundabout near IKEA

It’s one of the oldest buildings in Fishers built the same year the Civil War started (1861). So it’s been around the block. Literally too, as it’s been moved a few times and now sits here near I-69. At one point, the city had plans to use the house as a centerpiece for the roundabout near IKEA. There were even plans to renovate it and have it be an info center!

That never happened though, and you can still see it today as you drive north on I-69.

So why am I telling you this right now? The Fishers Historical Society is hosting a webinar on April 7th with Bob Kincaid, who used to live in the house. If you’re interested in learning more about its history, you can sign up to join for free.

Go Deeper: If you can’t wait, you can go down a major rabbit hole with this by looking up “Kincaid House in Fishers” on Facebook. There are all sorts of groups and communities dedicated to the house.

When is the community center opening?

Rendering of how the community center will look on the existing land. Pretty neat!

The new Fishers Community Center will open in October 2025. They broke ground earlier this week with the help of some tiny helpers at Hoosier Road Elementary.

The land donated by the Johnson Family will have the street it lives on aptly named “Johnson Farm Way”. There will be a dog park, walking track, indoor pool, Cafe by Sahm’s, basketball courts, pickleball courts, a gym, and much more.

A fun fact is that it’s nicely located about 10 minutes from most points in Fishers, which is great because it’s mainly for Fishers residents. For that reason, the city doesn’t expect it to be a high-traffic area and has decided not to include any road work alongside it. So Hoosier Road and 121st Street will remain the same.

🌑 Edgar Allan Poe Vibes*

You won't want to miss this Edgar Allan Poe-themed speakeasy. Especially if you’re a fan of dark moods, vibes, and a good time. It’s a one-day event happening in Carmel, and only a few slots remain—it’s already almost sold out.

Poe historians will retell his most famous stories with themed drinks to match each story. It’s a night to rave about with comedy, drama, and experience all in one. Secure your tickets here.

Mark your calendars 🗓️

Here are a few events to mark early on the calendar.

Weed wrangle

This volunteer event gets a green thumbs-up. 👍🏻💚 Hamilton County Invasives mission is kicking back up with spring near. They help protect our city and county from harmful, invasive plants and trees. Yes. Bradford Pears are invasive and on their hit list. List of upcoming wrangles here.

Shoot guns, support kids

This is the single most Indiana fundraiser I have ever come across. The first annual Clays for a Cause is a shooting challenge and fundraiser for the Salvation Army. Your good shooting will help send 500 at-risk Hoosier kids to camp this summer. It happens on May 31st at the Indiana Gun Club. Early registration here
