What’s coming in 2024? 🤔 

The list for what’s coming in 2024 is long. Too much to fit in one newsletter. So over the next few weeks, we’ll visit the new businesses, projects, and places to come. The year is looking bright! Here’s a few in all categories to give you an idea:

• Fishers event center - Fall 2024

• Hotel Nickel Plate - Next month (February)

• Total Solar Eclipse - April 8, 2024

• Cafe Patachou - Soon, hopefully

Civil center, art center, and theatre

Fishers Municipal Circle will look juuust a little different this year.

• New council: Tiffanie Ditlevson (R-at-large), John DeLucia (R-NC District), and Bill Stuart (D-SW District)

• New building: Around May/June, the new City Hall will be complete and in use.

The new building will serve a triple purpose as an art center, a theatre, and the government’s offices. The art center will be operated by The Indianapolis Art Center Inc, a local nonprofit.

💡FAQ: Wasn’t the old building sinking? Why rebuild on the same spot? 

A fine question indeed. Supposedly, the original building wasn’t done correctly in the first place (it did last 31 years though). So architecting the new building right meant building on the same spot wasn’t an issue.

💸 Teacher grant apps open

One big thing: The $500,000 Teachers grant applications open today.

Lump-sum grants are available to ALL educators in the HSE school system. The project you submit must be something new and can’t be things like a pizza party 😂 Grants are approved on a rolling basis, so teachers can take their time thinking through their project without a hard deadline. This is the first year a program like this has existed in Fishers, and I expect it to be very popular.

The Happenings

🚨 Don’t miss community garden sign-ups this morning. Registration starts at 8:30 am. There are not a whole lot of programs that sell out quickly, but this is definitely one of them. If you’re interested in learning more and want to increase your chance of getting a plot, read this guide here.

❯ Now that the holiday season is mostly over, you might have a Christmas tree to get rid of. If you want the easiest way to get rid of it, you can take it to Brooks School, Cumberland, or Billericay Park. Here’s where and how. (link)

❯ If your new year’s resolutions include learning a new skill, the Maker playground has some that are interesting on how to:

• Hang a door

• Run electrical wires

• Use a 3d printer

• Use a laser cutter

After taking a few classes, you’ll probably be able impress your love interest being able to explain what a “biscuit joiner” is 🤣 . Learn more.

Quick headlines and things to know from all around 🌐 

Website got a facelift for the City of Fishers. If you’ve ever used their old site, you know it can get a little clunky. Re-developing a website with thousands of pages and documents is no easy task, and from our light testing it looks pretty good. Check out the updated website here.

The Geist Half, 10k, and 5k have been announced for this year. Mark your calendars for September 14th. They’re promising another revamp of the experience. Mostly around the parties your ticket will or will not get you into. (link)

The New York Times is taking on OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Microsoft. Their court ruling shows solid evidence of infringement on their works, and NYT wants their cut. They submitted over 100 examples of ChatGPT outputting word-for-word copies of NYT articles. (link)

The IBJ put together an interesting list of cool coffee concepts that both opened and closed this year around Indianapolis. A few to make the list were from Fishers. Check out the list at this link.

Local businesses should steal this for a trivia night question. Fishers has 414,716 miles of roads. Yes, you read that right. Almost half a million miles.
