The Digest

Charter school = not happening 🏫

That was short-lived. Opportunity Education, who planned to provide funding to help build HSE a new charter school sometime in 2026, pulled their offer. Superintendent Dr. Mapes shared the email and his thoughts around the news.

Context: Over the past few weeks, teachers and community members have been very vocal — they don’t want to lose students to a program that’s not within the school system’s resources.

How’s the food at the event center? 🤔

All the food options in the VIP area

The Fishers Event Center opens today 🎉 If you’re planning on going to the concert tonight, or any future event, you’ll probably get a bite to eat. I was lucky enough to try the food earlier this week with other professionals like Traveling Foodie Guyde.

Here’s the scoop 🍦: Their smoked dishes are the key. The mac and cheese with smoked brisket, and smoked pork belly cinnamon roll have no business being that good.

Their meats and ingredient options are sourced locally and thoughtfully (hello Fischer Farms 👋) and you can tell in the final product.

Overall, I don’t think you can go wrong with anything. Even the jackfruit pizza is good, and I’m not a fan of fruits on pizza lol.

Bullish: Closing Indiana’s AI gap

From their market research report

Only 27% of Indiana employees say their employers encourage AI use—10% below the national average. Indiana is behind on AI.

That’s where Santiago Jaramillo, who sold Fishers-based Emplify for $50M in 2021, is back with Pragmatico. Helping Hoosiers adopt AI. I like it. That feels ambitious, practical, and much needed.

Their full report includes Indiana survey results, plus tips and tricks for businesses. Worth a read—especially if you’re into new tech.

Two classics opening tomorrow

Both of these classics kick off their season tomorrow:

🎄 The Carmel Christkindlmarkt! This is a must-see holiday tradition. Pretend you’re in Germany and stroll through the traditional market with a mug of Glühwein in hand. Enjoy holiday music at the winter pavilion, raclette, and so much more. Don’t forget to book your ice skating tickets before you go. Tickets here.

Coming soon 🔜

Along those lines, December will be jam-packed with festive events around town. Mark your calendar now so you’re ready:

🚦 The Fishers Night Lights kicks off with a tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 30 with a winter celebration following after. Expect live music, food trucks, Santa, roaming holiday characters, and photo ops to jumpstart your holiday spirit. Details here

Local Business

Spray-Net goes Platinum 🪙

My advertising requirements for this newsletter are you must be a serious business with a seriously good product — because I don’t believe in promoting something I don’t also believe in.

So it’s cool to see one of our advertising partners, Spray-Net, win the 2024 best painting company in Fishers award 🏆️

Rodney didn’t pay me to put this here today or say nice things about him. I totally recommend checking them out whenever you’re ready to upgrade your kitchen interiors (and exteriors in the summer). Congrats!

Development detective 🔍️

Fishers has a great development dashboard anyone can use if you’re curious about something being built around the city. Here are a few fun ones not mentioned in news much yet:

  • A new Starbucks at 116th/Brooks School Road by next winter

  • A new carwash on Lantern Road/116th

  • A new high-end luxury car storage facility on 96th

And much more. I highly recommend checking it out if you like to snoop out what’s going on!

Ruoff planning to charge for parking again

All shows next year will cost a little bit more — thanks to two changes Ruoff will be making:

  1. Parking is no longer free, and will be $20-25 depending on when you buy

  2. No longer bring your own chair, rent them from Ruoff for $15/ea

Hopefully you got your fill of relatively easy parking this year! Hah.

Donation drives 🧸

It’s the season of giving. Here are a few ways to do that.

↦ Parlor Donuts is collecting toy donations benefiting the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots. Donate any unwanted, unwrapped toys to their Fishers location.

↦ The Fishers Library will be collecting new socks, winter hats, and mittens & gloves from Dec. 1- Jan. 5. This effort is part of their Season of Giving initiative for locals in need.

↦ HamCoLove is collecting women’s care products for Hamilton Co. residents. You can also help fulfill posted wish lists for someone in our area. All the info here.
