The Digest

City Council — 2.5 hours

City Council met yesterday and covered a huge amount of topics. If you want to skim, this is what you will find in the below recording:

  • The 2025 budget presentation by the mayor

  • Discussion on new sewer and trash rates (sewer going up $3 next year)

  • King Jugg + Park Place Pub’s thoughts on a new noise ordinance, worried it would put them out of business as it is currently written

  • Meijer officially coming to Southeastern Pkwy/Cyntheanne Rd

  • A new daycare on Cyntheanne (Kid City USA)

  • Southeast Fishers/Fortville annexation

  • and more.

Phew. You can watch the whole thing at your leisure here.

HSE vs. Fishers this week

One of the biggest sporting events in Fishers is this Friday — HSE vs Fishers Mudsock Football game. Nearly 8,000 fans in royal blue and red will pack the stands. Teachers of the Year will get their moment during halftime. This one usually sells out, so grab your tickets ASAP.

Who do you think will win? We will pick two poll respondents to send two tickets to the (hopefully) sold out game!

Who will win the 2024 Mudsock? HSE or Fishers?

Library Sign Up Month 📚️

👂️ whispers Do you want free Green Chile Queso with Chips from Torchy’s? All you need is a library card.

Having a library card in Fishers is maybe better than having a Willy Wonka golden ticket. Outside the obvious of renting books, you can get:

  • Access to audiobooks on your phone

  • Make requests for any books/audiobooks they might not have

  • Organized book clubs

  • Genealogy research tools

  • 60+ online language learning courses from Mango

  • Access to the Ignite Studio, which has a podcasting set-up, photography studio, 3d printers, laser engravers, and more

  • Deals all September at local businesses (here is the list)

This list was 3x this size and took a lot to cut it down to that. Point is — if you don’t have a library card you probably should. And September is a good month to have it!

Visit the 9/11 Memorial

In 2021, the Indiana 9/11 Memorial was updated + expanded. It features two 11,000-pound beams from the Twin Towers, a pair of six-foot tall black granite walls, a survivor tree, and more. You can visit it virtually on their website, or see it in person at 421 W Ohio St, Indianapolis, IN.

City Recycling Day

Do you have a bunch of random stuff laying around not deemed fit for the trash (like wires, speakers, pool chemicals, cell phones, etc?). You’re in luck.

Recycling Day is Saturday, 9/14 from 8 am - 1 pm at Billericay Park. This is your chance to clear the clutter. Full list of acceptable items here.

Local Business

Indiana’s newest, homegrown vodka: Barkeep 🍸️

If you’re a corn enjoyer, allow us to introduce you to Barkeep Vodka. Made with 100% Indiana corn and run through a patented distilling process to give you the purest, cleanest shot of vodka you can get.

You can pick some of this up at your local liquor store, or at a Huse Culinary location like 1933 Lounge or HC Tavern.

2024 top balloon flyers 🎈

If you looked up at all this weekend, you probably saw dozens of balloons floating around for this year’s Jupiter Flights Balloon Festival. You can see all the photos from the weekend here.

Is the White River safe to use?

Kayaking/canoeing, fishing, are all fine. Just don’t go drinking it, swimming in it, bringing pets, etc. You can always check the White River’s conditions for use before you go!

Context: The White River is known for being filthy. It’s the safest + cleanest it’s been since humans started dumping sewage and industrial waste in it. Which is great that’s stopped, but researchers say it will likely never be safe for things like swimming.

If you want to help keep it clean, Conner Prairie with the White River Alliance is hosting a cleanup this Sunday, September 15th. The event is free and an opportunity to paddle around in a canoe for a good cause! Details here.

🏇 It is now year 11 of the Colts going winless in their season opener. Oof (Colts)

But on a positive note, anyone buying a drink at a Colts game this year will receive a reusable cup. The hope is that people will take their souvenir home rather than throw it away, and help the initiative to reduce our carbon footprint at Lucas Oil Stadium by 50%. (WTHR)
