The Digest

Ignite space 🔥

One big thing: The Ignite space at the library is a one-stop-shop for expensive equipment needs.

We recently used their set-up for an upcoming podcast, and I was blown away by the amount of equipment they have available. Here is some of the coolest tech they have on hand:

  • Laser engraver

  • Vinyl cutters

  • Digital art tablets

  • Laptop computers with design software for check-out

  • 3d printers

  • Podcasting and soundproofing equipment

  • Cameras, lighting, and backdrops for videography

For most of the classes, all you have to do is take a short online class to learn how to use the equipment. And the best part is all you need is a free library card (except cost of materials i.e. 3d printing plastic).

I’m convinced if you’re savvy enough, you could easily start profitable, local businesses with little starting capital. Here are four ideas that you could start today using only library equipment:

  • Start an Etsy store making 3d-printed ornaments

  • Create vinyl stickers for accessories on cars (think exterior badges, interior parts, etc.)

  • Podcasting editing. Create listings on Fiverr, Upwork, FB groups

  • Headshot company (pretty much any new iPhone is good enough to take good pictures). Edit with library computer design software

Check it out and let me know if you start any of these businesses. I will be your first customer 💪

6 months of being friends 🎉

The first Fishers Digest issue. Roast it in the feedback section pls 😂

One big thing: Thank you for being a part of this community and making this possible.

Today I want to quickly celebrate six months of Fishers Digest. In six months, we’ve sent hundreds of thousands of emails over 112 issues. And I couldn’t be more thankful.

I started this started as an experiment with AI to help an underserved niche (local news). That quickly changed to what you see today. Every newsletter is human written. I want to make it easier for you to know the important stuff living in Indiana.

Supporting the Digest: The best thing you can do is share this with your friends, colleagues, fam, etc. Use your referral link!

You can also become a premium subscriber. Recently, we gave away two front row tickets to the Circle of Lights Hype Zone experience to our premium subs. We try and make this valuable, and it costs LESS than a Starbucks coffee!

Thank you to everyone who has believed in this. I’m excited for what’s next. Cheers to 6 more months 🍻 -Skyler

The Happenings

📍8654 E 116th St, Fishers, IN 46038. AKA Santa’s mailbox address. Drop off your letters and receive a letter back from the big man himself! Just make sure you leave a return address. Drop-offs end December 15.

If you prefer to give your letters to him in person, you’ll find him at The Yard this Thursday from 6-8 pm at Sun King Brewery. I get it, Santa. Getting the holiday season started right with a nice local beer.

Coming soon

NPT Lights Festival starts this Friday through the weekend. Lights will be on display all throughout downtown and the trail. There will be food, music, photo booths, and more to enjoy! From 6-8 pm daily. Learn more.

Local Charities

Giving Tuesday is here. There are over 200 non-profits in JUST Fishers. The amount of good work happening is all around us. While I’d love to spotlight all of them, here are a few that we are familiar with that would love your support today. Hopefully one or two resonate with you.

Humane Society for Hamilton County

The HSHC is one of the only no-kill shelters in the country. This makes them a very desirable place to bring animals for a second chance. It also makes it much harder to operate. The HSHC is looking to fundraise $37,000 this year for Giving Tuesday. Help them out here.

KassieKares

This is a charity creating schools, scholarships, and travel opportunities for students around the world. Imagine the amount of effort and sheer will that goes into building a school from the ground up. They did exactly that.

Not so Silent Night (The Giving Note Foundation)

This one-night-event is a direct way to impact your neighbors. They’ve been helping adopt families for six years, and recently created a non-profit to help even more families than they can alone. Their goal this year is to support 25 local families who need help this holiday season.

You can purchase tickets to their event this Friday, December 1 here. A portion of all proceeds and sales will go directly to their goal.

Do you have a favorite charity?

We will choose three and donate to them today!

Quick Hits

Sports recap 🏈

  • 27 - 20 | Colts vs Buccaneers | If the season ended today, the Colts would be in the playoffs. Not bad for a team without their star QB. They continue to make it happen!

  • 31 - 35 | IU vs Purdue | The football season for these teams is now officially over. Purdue takes home the Old Oaken Bucket.

📈 The LouVinos → Cooper Cow upgrade is almost complete. Almost 7 months ago, LouVinos shut their doors. But the group who owns the restaurant isn’t finished with the area. They’re taking another crack at it with another one of their restaurants. Cooper Cow*. Find them when they open in December at 8626 E 116th St, Fishers, IN 46038.

Verizon’s privileges are being revoked. The City of Fishers offered Verizon an exclusive contract to build 5G towers in the city. They didn’t build what they said they would, and stopped answering calls and emails from the city. Lmao! More on this coming in a future issue.

Construction this week

Here’s a high-level overview of what’s new this week:

  • 116th/Municipal Drive will have the sidewalk blocked on Monday. Crews are installing a new sign for the restaurant replacing LouVino.

  • 106th/Hoosier Road roundabout should be usable by the end of the year. New info says there will be clean-up related activities going beyond that into the Spring of next year.

Thanks!
