The Digest

Are You Proud to Be a Hoosier? Here’s what you think 👇️

Turns out, most of you are!... with some caveats. If you’ve never seen a wordcloud before, here’s how it works: The larger a word is, the more often it was mentioned in our poll last Friday. Easy, right! It’s a nuanced view of what drives both pride and dissatisfaction among Indiana residents.

So why did we choose this question? Indiana ranks 40th/50 for happiness in the US. In general, people who live here have a lower perception of Indiana vs how people from other states view us. So what better way to see how we really feel than to poll ourselves!

Here are the key takeaways:

  • We are proud of our neighbors, having four seasons, family bonds, cost of living, hospitality, sports, and many more 💪

  • Feelings on politics and culture clash, and are hard to put as positive or negative. There is everything from all love, positive, negative, and strong dislike

  • We are NOT fans of our infrastructure or traffic 😂

If you’re having trouble reading the chart or want to learn more, you can download the full image and more on our website. Thank you to everyone who responded, and the SMARI team for making this possible! If you need market research for your business, check them out.

Bridge assembly in progress… 🔨

If you make your way to the Fishers Agripark this weekend, you’ll get a rare glimpse of a bridge being built. How often do you get to see that?! This is the reconstruction of the Bell Ford Bridge 🌉

They’re basing this on the pieces Hamilton County collected from the original Bell Ford Bridge in Seymour, IN. That bridge was originally made in 1869, so it’s a bit old to reuse the same wood but the architecture will be the same — with some improvements like a more durable roof. Probably a good thing.

Almost gone: 🏊️ The 2024 Swim Olympic Trials

Everyone I’ve talked to has gone has said this was an amazing experience. So if you’re on the fence about going, here’s your push and recommendation to do it.

And Hamilton County swimmers are killing it. 18-year-old Noah Whitlock from Noblesville will likely be the youngest athlete to make the US Olympic men’s swim team since 2000. Who did it in 2000? None other than Michael Phelps.

There are seven others from the Fishers teams who are competing and doing well too 🔥
