Fishers Invests into Athletics

The City of Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern Schools announced a $3.6 million dollar investment in local athletic facilities and youth sports programming.

The investment will be for improvements to athletic fields at Fishers High School and Hamilton Southeastern High School to benefit student-athletes, youth sports organizations, and the broader Fishers community.

Additionally a new position will be created to manage the fields and implement a citywide strategy, The City & District Athletic Director. Jim Self, longtime Hamilton Southeastern Athletic Director will fill the role starting in May.

Hoosier parents, this is your early win for next summer. Jameson Camp just opened registration for Summer Camp 2026, and spots will fill fast. With 135 acres of woods, water, trails, and adventure on the west side of Indianapolis, this is the kind of camp kids talk about all year.

They back it up with financial aid, small groups, and onsite behavioral health specialists so every camper has the support they need.

Plus, nonprofits, churches, and youth groups can use their space all year long!

Grab your spot and get the details at jamesoncamp.org.

Fishers Coach Heading to Iowa

Fishers High School boy’s basketball coach, Garrett Winegar is leaving the program after six seasons for an opportunity to coach the freshman/sophomore team at Iowa United Prep. During his time at Fishers the Tigers went 132-25, winning the Class 4A state championship, and also finishing second another season. Winegar was a nominee for the Naismith national high school coach of the year.

Winegar announced the move on his social media and the community, students, and players are sending well wishes.

A New Private School?

A former pool clubhouse sits at the corner of Cumberland Road and 106th street next to Fishers Fire Department Station 94. On March 20, Fishers City Council will meet for final approval on Central Christian Academy having their facility there. An existing structure sits on the property and that would be expanded over three phases.

The private school will start with about 30 students in Kindergarten and first-grade, and then add one grade level per year, with 170 students being the maximum.

Here is information on plans for the school including the expansion phases, parking, traffic, and more.

New State Law Affects Fishers Rental Cap

A few weeks back I talked about how if Indiana House Bill 1001 was passed it would change the rental cap recently adopted by the City of Fishers, well that bill was passed, but amendments were made to it so that it had little impact on Fishers.

However, another state bill was signed by Gov. Mike Braun on March 12 that does prohibit rental caps like we have here in Fishers. Our local government will be able to enforce the rental caps until January 2028. You can read more about the bill and how it will affect us locally here.

👋 Meet Abby

Meet Abby Vitale, recent Fishers High School and Indiana University grad, and now Fishers resident and co-owner of Lilac Blonde

Abby and her dad started Lilac Blonde back in 2021, when she was still a student at Indiana. The sneaker and street wear store started as a small online shop focusing on women’s style and sizing and has since grown into a multi-channel retail business with both e-commerce and a physical storefront at Hamilton Town Center.

Abby says Lilac Blonde actually began as a learning opportunity. “My dad wanted to teach me about business operations and e-commerce, so we started the brand almost as an experiment and a way for me to gain hands-on experience. But very quickly it started to resonate with people especially women who loved sneakers and street wear but often felt overlooked in that space. What started as a small project grew into a community, and that’s when we realized we had the opportunity to build something meaningful. Throughout the entire process, my dad has been my biggest mentor and teacher.”

Abby and Lilac Blonde also give back in a big way. Abby’s great aunt lost her life to breast cancer, and it affects 1 in 8 women, so supporting women’s health is very important to them. A percentage of all of Lilac Blonde's profits are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

If Abby had a free day in Fishers she’d start with breakfast at Patachou, either the Patawich or avocado toast with a pistachio latte. On a nice spring day she’d head to Flat Fork Creek Park to hammock and enjoy the weather. In the evening she would grab dinner and drinks with friends at Sun King or 101 Craft Kitchen.

Next time you are up at Hamilton Town Center, stop into Lilac Blonde and say hi, or check them out online. You can also enter the Lilac Blonde Bracket Battle today for a chance to win sneakers and clothes.

Throw down this March with the DunkFest Special at ClusterTruck! 2lbs of Chicken Strips and house made dips, Cheesy Bread, Chips and Queso, and Churros, all for $39.99! Available every game day during the tournament this March.
