The Digest

HSE Opens Doors to Out-of-District Students 🏫

Hamilton Southeastern Schools is accepting non-resident students for the first time, following a unanimous board vote. The decision comes as the district faces declining enrollment and budget challenges.

Key points about the new transfer policy:

  • Applications open this Friday, February 21

  • Students must meet academic and behavioral criteria

  • Some schools will be closed to transfers

  • Class sizes won't exceed current limits

  • Internal transfer procedures remain unchanged

Gatewood Lakes 🌊

The largest residential project in Noblesville's history will be a $2B community near Ruoff Music Center. As the IndyStar points out, this is as large as some Indiana towns lol. They are planning to transform 1,300 acres into a golf-cart friendly neighborhood with lakes, trails, and its own shopping district.

The plan (view pics here) includes:

  • 2,422 homes plus potential for 1,000 apartments

  • 2.5 miles of shoreline with a small marina

  • 140 acres of parks connected by 20+ miles of trails

  • New shopping area called Deer Creek Village

📆 Noblesville’s Plan Commission will hold a public hearing on it February 18, followed by a potential City Council vote February 25.

Worth noting: The Hamilton Southeastern school district would serve the community, which is expected to house over 5,000 residents when complete around 2033.

Money Snacks: Early 50s finance manager making $115K shares local advice

Money Snacks - People Stories is a weekly series showing how people in Fishers/Hamilton County approach money. You will see a variety of approaches and stories. Participate.

Living situation: I own a modest home. I financed a 30 year mortgage with 5% down. When I refinanced to get a lower rate I shaved a few years off my mortgage.

#1 Splurge: Self care, like getting a Starbucks, doing an activity like a massage, or a membership. I buy Flexx nutrition meals some weeks which may be a splurge but it's also a healthy splurge.

Fav local restaurant: When it's cold outside I like Pho VN — the broth is divine! If you get the large, you can take half home. You can make a second meal at home for only $1 or $2! 🔥

Spring Break hack: Instead of Spring Break vacation, change it up and do a couple long weekend getaways. I promise if you take pictures your kids will look back at those fond memories just as much if not more.

Salary: An Operations Manager in Finance making $115,000 with bonus up to 20% based on company goal attainment.

Budgeting: I don't budget. If it's an expensive month I do less eating out and less events the next month. I max out saving for retirement first so I don't get used to the extra money each paycheck.

House Hunting? Here's What Local Realtors Wish You Knew 🏠 *

Most people start looking at houses with a realtor. But they end up wasting weekends looking at homes they might not even qualify for. A quick chat with a lender first lets you shop with confidence, knowing exactly what you can afford.
