K-9 officer “Barry” is set to retire. He is one of four canines trained in narcotics detection and patrol. Barry has been recommended for retirement by the K-9 Unit’s primary veterinarian. Barry will be given to his handler, Officer Sam Ralph. He has served Fishers for eight years.

Public hearing for 2024 budget

One big thing: Tonight is your chance to give your thoughts on how Fishers uses your tax dollars.

There are certain ways the government can use its money. This isn’t really the case for the income tax money Fishers has been receiving from Carmel. This year’s proposal includes 12 million to make Fishers more walkable. Making 96th Street nicer. A teacher’s grant. And more.

Tonight is your opportunity to provide feedback to Fishers on how this money is used. If you’re camera shy, you can submit a public comment here by 12 today.

2024 Arts Commission grant

Fishers Arts + Culture Commission is coming soon with a 2024 grant program. Applications will open from Oct 2 - Dec 15, 2023. Here's what you need to know:

• Grants are up to $7,500

• Your project can be an exhibit, event, program, display, or artistic or cultural expression. Must be completed in 2024 and occur within city boundaries.

Rise n’ Roll sets sights North

Rise’n Roll Bakery is closing its downtown Indianapolis and Broad Ripple locations due to decreased downtown office workers. One franchisee is calling the move “tactical*.” The idea is to consolidate their locations into a smaller area. It seems the Fishers location is here to stay (their caramel cinnamon donuts are DIESEL) 🍩

Construction this week

Here’s a high-level overview of what’s going on this week:

• Westbound on 116th near Brooks School Road will be one lane on Monday, 09/18. Handrail repair at the Marathon gas station.

• Lane restrictions on Tuesday (09/19) at SR37/141st for shoulder repair. 126/Ford Drive roundabout for sewer cleaning.

• Pavement repair on 96th/Lantern Road on Wednesday, 09/20.

• Tree trimming on 116th and Allisonville starts Monday. Will go on for several weeks.
