⛵New Kroger + Mochi Joy

PLUS: Spyglass changes, weekend events, and local income tax

Good Tuesday Morning. This is Fishers Digest. It’s the last day of January. How we doin’ on those new year resolutions?

In today’s digest:

  • Possible changes to an intersection at Spyglass

  • How Fishers gets the short stick on local income tax

  • New Kroger

  • Curated events

This issue is 1,131 words, a 4-minute read.

The Digest

Spyglass Intersection 🚗

The city wants your input on how to fix the Klotz Farm Boulevard/116th Street intersection. Here were the options proposed this week:

  • A one-way extension from Lauren Falls Lane to Knightsbridge Lane ($345K) — this is the city’s recommended solution

  • A $500K traffic signal (but it doesn’t meet usage thresholds)

  • A $4 million+ roundabout

  • A $3.5 million new road to Cumberland (would require buying out homes)

The Board of Public Works & Safety will likely decide at its Feb. 25 meeting. If you want all the details—or just can’t resist a big read—the city’s 500-page report is here. Feedback is open now, so let them know what you think before the final vote.

Fishers Income Tax Split 💰️

When you pay local income tax, the state collects it then splits it between cities. Right now, Fishers gets $42.5M while Carmel gets $77M — even though both cities have about 100,000 people.

There is a new bill out that if it passes, Fishers will get an extra $7M and Carmel getting $1.5M as soon as next year.

Backstory: This has been a years-long issue. In 2023, Carmel sued the state over a similar attempt to redistribute these dollars and won.

Local Business

Kroger opens new marketplace on 116th/Allisonville

Photo from Fishers Gov FB page. It looks like the Fishers Freight is the only local mascot not here! Lol

Most everyone will know what a Kroger is, so here are the quick details:

  • Where: 7450 Fishers Station Drive (116th & Allisonville)

  • Size: 120,000 sq. ft.—nearly double the 1996 store it replaces

  • Features: Wider aisles, house-made popcorn café, an apparel section, Starbucks, Murray’s Cheese shop

  • Next Up: Future of the old store site is still TBD.

Mochi Joy Grand Opening 🍩

From their website

MochiJoy Donuts has been teasing this launch for months, and are now finally ready to roll out the dough.

Join them Feb. 1 & 2 (9am–1:30 pm) at 8664 E 96th St in Fishers for their big grand opening celebration 🎉

They will have live music, brand-new menu items, and a coffee lineup to enjoy.

MAIL-ORDER KING 🍕

I just found out you can Ring the King from anywhere in the US, not just Indiana. The catch? It’s not exactly cheap.

Box breakdown: Each shipping box fits six menu items. If I’m dropping extra money just for shipping, I’m cramming that box to the brim.

Cost check: I tested six Royal Feast pizzas shipped to Austin, TX, and the total came out to $175. 🤯

Local tip: If you’re here in Fishers (most of you are), you can grab a fresh Royal Feast at 11228 Fall Creek Rd.

Curated picks 📆

The last weekend of Devour Indy

This is your last call for cool restaurant deals this weekend! Fishers alone has 15 restaurants for you to check out. The next Devour Indy will be in about 6 months. Support local!

WWE 🤼

This Saturday’s WWE Royal Rumble has Indy changing 25 street signs to get in the mood. I love that Indy does this, but I wonder if it makes using maps hard when you’re from out of town hah.

60k+ people are expected to attend, so it should be breaking some records.

There are lots of events going on this week/weekend to celebrate.

> The two main events this weekend, Friday night’s Smack Down. And the main event Saturday, Royal Rumble. Tickets for both here.

> The Indy Fuel will have a wrestling night this Friday at the Fishers Event Center. With some icons from the WWE there signing autographs before the game. Tickets here.

> WrestleCon is this weekend, which is free to enter. Some of the meet n’ greets are paid. Details

Axios Indianapolis has put together 15 more events/things to do if you or someone in the fam is a wrestling fan and wants to get in on the action. List of events
