  • National Library Week - Appreciation

  • Weekend preview

This issue is 1,443 words, a 5-minute read.

The Digest

2025-2026 school calendars get the greenlight

One big thing: no more flex days. That’s it. For the full calendar and dates, go here.

In similar news, the school is purchasing 300 new Apple MacBook Airs for staff as part of its 10-year tech plan. These are a great choice for secure, easy-to-use devices.

💉 Help prevent CPV

CPV, or Parvo, is a contagious and dangerous disease that can be fatal for dogs. There is no cure and treatment is expensive. Luckily, it’s preventable and the amazing humans at the Parvo Prevention Project are making that happen. For free. Their goal is to vaccinate at least 500 dogs to keep your buddy safe.

Join the clinic on Saturday from 11 to 3 pm. Drive through the Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside (FIDO) parking lot at 1505 N. Sherman Drive in Indianapolis.

Here’s what you think about the Geist Waterfront Park fees

Results from Tuesday’s poll

Good news: You will no longer have to use an app to go to the park. Your license with an address is enough.

The Board of Public Works also approved the $25 fee recommendation, which will now go to the city council for a final vote. If you have strong opinions on the park or fee, this is where you will have a chance to share them.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the poll. You rock 💪

The Happenings

Weekend preview 📆

🏀 Will the Pacers make it?

The Indiana Pacers are so close to the playoffs, and can avoid the play-ins by winning either of their last two games. Watch tonight’s game from a local bar and their final game in person at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Vintage computer expo 🖲️

70s, 80s, and 90s babies — do you miss the simpler times? Back when trackball mice were all the rage, and a computer could barely do anything? The Indy Classic is hosting a vintage computer experience this Saturday. Relive those times, and bring your own vintage stuff if you need help fixing it. Just leave the printers at home. Details here.

Carmel Marathon 🏃

Tickets for the marathon are sold out, but you can still get on the waiting list. They also have shorter-distance events for any fitness level. Tickets are here.

Murder mystery + last home game of the season

The final home game of the Indy Fuel’s season is this Saturday vs the Kalamazoo Wings. This would also be their last game at the Coliseum before moving to the Fishers Event Center later this year. Tickets here.

📚️ Wrapping up National Library Week

Here’s a huge shout-out to our library system. It’s a world-class program that has something for all ages. Here are just a few of the best things they have to offer:

  • Free-to-use working/study rooms

  • Daily kid-friendly events - from crafts to live music to reading

  • Hang-out area for teens with modern video game set-ups

  • Ignite space (podcasting booths, 3d printers, laser cutters, laptop use, and more)

A few things are going on this weekend too, so read on for those. And make sure you thank your librarian if you go!

Seed Library

Donated seeds you can take to grow your own

A hack for having a lush garden is taking advantage of your local seed libraries. At ours you will find vegetables, fruits, wildflowers, and modified seeds. Seeds provided by the library also come with a difficulty score. Level 1 is easy and might grow if you throw ‘em in the ground. Level 2 is a step up and requires timing and planning to grow.

And maybe the best part of the program is that you can donate and take community-made seeds. If you’re a backyard chemist you can take these and try to become the next Rudolph Hass, the grandfather of avocados.

Just make sure if you create something amazing, you get credit. Avocados are a 16 billion market, and Rudolph only made $5000 😮‍💨

Staff Exhibit

This exhibit is open all day Saturday and showcases the works of HEPL’s multi-talented library workers. It features artists who also work in Youth Services, Ignite Studio, Collection Services, Public Services, and the Teen Zone.

Local Business

Tre on Main - By Sangiovese Ristorante

Tre is a new Italian eatery opening in Carmel later this April. It’s located at 10 E Main Street. Why am I sharing a Carmel business opening here? Chris Evans also owns the Sangiovese Ristorante at The Yard, which is what Tre will be based on. He plans for it to be his final Italian restaurant in the Indy area.
