⛵️ Our best open secret

PLUS: Make 48 winners, new library director, and your weekend preview

Good Friday Morning. This is Fishers Digest. Another reader submission: Are you really from Indiana if you haven’t shared with someone how many things can fit in the Indy 500 Motor Speedway?

In today’s digest:

  • Make48 winners

  • Another award for Fishers

  • Indy Kid’s Day

  • Weekend preview

> In my excitement to share a cool tool, I didn’t double-check how up to date the Happy Hour Finder from last Tuesday was. No, I don’t think the Nickel Plate Bar and Grill is coming back 😭 If you know of a better happy hour finder, let us know!

— Written by Lindsey Watson and Skyler Braun

This issue is 1,250 words, a 4-minute read.

The Digest

Who won the Make48 challenge?

Team Members: Ellie Taylor, Meghan Haws, Eliza Uliczny, and Sam Uliczny (team captain).

None other than HSE FFA team! They walked away with $2,000, a custom-made trophy, and will represent HSE and the state of Indiana at the national competition this November in Kansas City. The team also earned Best Pitch, voted on by guests during the judging round.

Congratulations on doing our city proud 🎉 Read more about their 48-hour challenge and the problem they solved.

Another award for the belt 🏆️

Fishers won another Livability award for 2024 — coming in fourth place for top 100 best places to live. Many of these are just newsbait, but there’s some gold in there. They say housing/cost of living is our top category. Schoolhouse 7 is our best cafe. And our best open secret is our love for art and all our art installations.

Is our best open secret our love for art and art installations?

By the way: Have you seen the movie Up? The one with the grumpy old man and scout named Russell? I use a scene from the movie as a joke to track all the awards Fishers has won 🤣 Every time Fishers gets one of these, it gets added to Russell’s belt. Check it here.

Teacher Appreciation Week 🫶

Teachers at Fishers High School were treated to goat yoga on Wednesday in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week! Get your goat pics here.

Also, do you know a teacher who needs help funding a brilliant curriculum idea? The City of Fishers has budgeted $500K for an Educator Innovation Grant program which assists teachers with classroom resources. Three HSE teachers received grants for their projects a few weeks ago and there is still plenty of $ left.

Seriously, who did this?!

Does anyone know where these random clothes bins are coming from? They are starting to pop up in Fishers. Residents have seen these bins in multiple places around town, but no one knows who is placing the bins or collecting clothes and shoes.

Fellow Colonel Mustard Clue players, please email us if you know who did this!

The Happenings

Weekend preview 📆

ICYMI from Tuesday’s issue, these are all happening this weekend:
> Rosé and Roses is today at Conner Prairie
> Last weekend for The Forbidden Broadway and Anastasia show
> Mother’s Day is Sunday. Here’s our guide.

Gone Fishin’ 🎣

If fishing's your thing, this Sunday is the first of Indiana’s Free Fishing Days. No license? No problem. Rules like size limits still apply though.

For a hosted event, Fishers Parks has a free pop-up fishing event at Flat Fork Creek Park. Pack your gear or borrow some on-site, and head over to FishersParks.com/Fishing

Great day to be a kid

Saturday is a great day to be a kid. The 500 Kids’ Day is the largest free festival in the state. Go to drumming workshops, master Bollywood-style dancing, hoop it up with the Pacers and Fever, create fabulous sashes with the 500 Festival Princess, or run in the Rookie Run.

Get all the details you need here.

Second Friday 🎨

What’s the saying? “First is the worst, second is the best…”. That applies to the Fishers Art Council’s Second Friday — art that heals. Meet artists, enjoy their work, and drink wine from a cash bar. Friday 05/10 from 6-8 pm.

The Pacers need your help 🏀

The last time they made it to the Conference Semi-Finals was in 2014. And as of today, they are down 0-2 in a best of seven. They are playing tonight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and tickets start at $79.

You can also watch the game on ESPN or by radio: ESPN Radio, SiriusXM, 93.5/107.5 The Fan, ESPN NY 98.7

Our pick: Bubbles and Bouqets

Celebrate Mom this weekend with “Bubbles and Bouquets”! You can find Fishers Flower Farm at the Yard on Sunday from 12-3 pm giving out free mimosas and bouquets of flowers. Gents, not sure how this gets any easier for you! ☺️

🎶 Live Music

The Nickel Plate District Amphitheater recently announced their lineup for Free Tuesdays. It’s exactly what it sounds like and will go from June through July.

Bring your blanket and dinner (food and drinks will also be posted up on-site) and enjoy some free entertainment. I have to say, I’m looking forward to the Nauti Yachtys solely based on their name 🤣

And if you can’t wait for live music until June, here’s a list of live music venues courtesy of yours truly:

Porching

If someone knows how to get something added to the dictionary, here is our submission:

Porching, verb (1) ˈpȯrch porched; porching; porches: the act of decorating one's porch in May with race gear and memorabilia in celebration of the Indy 500.

Anyway, if you missed your shot at a free “porching kit” last week, you can still purchase decorating gear online from IMS. And it’s worth your time to do it and submit your home. Top prize will take home free meat for a year, a driver signed milk bottle, a case of beers (Coors of course), and much more.

Use this handy Google map from IMS to view your competition.

Curious when new stuff is coming?

We’ll always keep you informed here on what you need to know. But in case you want to jump ahead and figure out that things like these are all coming to Fishers soon:

  • Meijer at Cyntheanne by Schoolhouse 7

  • The Atwell Hotel at Saxony

  • Lincoln Square Pancake House on 96th Street

… then you’ll want to use the Fishers development dashboard.

The lazy river

A few of you asked what the lazy river looked like for CityWalk. This is the best pic that’s publically available. Thanks to our local development expert Henok Cronin for this 🔥

Thanks!
