The Digest

Fishers Plans 10% Rental Cap in Neighborhoods 🏠

Fishers is moving to limit rental homes to 10% per neighborhood, with enforcement starting January 2026. The ordinance will require registration and permits if you want to rent out your home. Existing rentals will be grandfathered in. Some exemptions to the rules may include family rentals, military deployments, and hardship cases. Fines for not complying will range anywhere from $250 for non-registration to $7,500 for exceeding caps.

City Council wants to finalize it in March. You can read the proposed ordinance here.

New Hotel Coming to The Union at Fishers

Rendering of the hotel + surrounding retail space

Indiana's getting its first AC Hotel, and of course it's coming to Fishers District. The 135-room Marriott property will bring its European-inspired design to The Union development, where it'll sit above retail space near I-69 and 116th Street.

The Union development will break ground sometime this quarter. The project also includes 251 luxury apartments, 70,000 square feet of office space, and new restaurants like:

  • Piedra

  • Niku Sushi

  • Kitchen Social

  • Everbowl

  • Racha Thai

When complete, the full $750 million Fishers District will connect five developments with walking paths across 123 acres near I-69 and 116th Street.

AgriPark's 2025 Season Takes Root 🌱

Rendering of the new agripark building

200,000 plants can feed a lot of people (and animals!). The Fishers Agripark is on their way to that goal with 20,000 plants already in the greenhouse. What’s sprouting? Things like kale, kohlrabi, cabbage, spinach, tomatoes, and herbs. New this year is some of the produce will head to the chimpanzees at the Indianapolis Zoo.

📆 The opening date this year is May 1st. You can learn more about the Agripark here.

💵 Money Snacks: New parent in fintech debates the financial impact of a second child

Money Snacks - People Stories is a weekly series showing how people in Fishers/Hamilton County approach money. You will see a variety of approaches and stories. Participate.

Salary: Fintech Operations making $60K

On kids: We have a 6-month old, and the most stressful part is probably the unknown costs ahead. We are deciding whether we want to have another child and how that would impact us.

Fav local restaurant: CR Heroes! Most of the things on the menu are great! I don’t have a particular favorite, but the potato charcuterie board is amazing.

#1 Splurge: Shipped coffee beans. I enjoy the nuances found from various regions and roasters. It’s hard to find that around here.

Budgeting: We take a DIY approach. I use YNAB and Projection Lab which is nice because it covers things like projected taxes. For savings we stick to index funds with a small (5-10%) portion of cryptocurrency exposure.

Best Money Decision: Taking a financial foundations class and using YNAB

Last call for Lou Malnati’s 🍕

Rendering of what Lou Malnati’s would have looked like in Fishers

Your last chance to get Lou Malnati’s is March 3rd. They announced they are pulling all of their Indy-area locations last week.

We don’t have one in Fishers, but at one point we almost did! It was going to be at 13133 Parkside Dr — right off SR 37. The deal fell through and Lou Malnati’s never publicly shared why. It ended up becoming a liquor store.

Maybe it has to do with profitability? In an interview with the IndyStar last week, they shared only their Carmel location seemed to achieve it.

We’ll probably never know. The good news is, you have one more week to try it locally. And can still get it up in Chicago if you’re a fan.

One more month until Fishers Freight Football 🏈

The Fishers Freight, our new hometown indoor football team, plays their first game on April 4th at the Fishers Event Center.

Their head coach described it on WishTV as “It’s basketball, hockey, and everything mixed together with a great game of football”

The Freight do a great job of keeping their website updated with all the news leading up to their official kickoff — including the player rosters and where they’re coming from!
