⛵️ Pumpkin catapults

PLUS: investor scam, launch fishers funding, and more

Good Wednesday morning. This is Fishers Digest. The spice rack of local news that never runs out of salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, cayenne pepper, cumin, 2 pounds of lean ground beef, 1 jalapeño, 1 onion diced, 2 cans of… wait wtf that’s my chili recipe.

🌤️ Today's weather: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67°.

In today’s digest:

  • Investor scams

  • Launch Fishers gets funding

  • Pumpkin trebuchet

This issue is 996 words, a 4-minute read.

Publisher note: Our Monday issue was a little light. I’m not going to blame it on the fact I was in Vegas the whole weekend. Celebrating my little sister’s 21st, but it definitely didn’t help 😂 Thanks for reading, and cheers! -Skyler

The Digest

Investor scam

One big thing: A Fishers (not Florida) man has been charged with stealing money from investors. How? With an investment laser tech club.

For Darrin Blaine’s next trick, he will pull a David Blaine and magically 🪄 make millions in investors’ money disappear. Allegedly, he built a Ponzi scheme to get investor money. Which he then used for personal use.

  • Indiana investors lost ~$680,000

  • Investors across the country lost ~$1.5 million

He got slapped with eight level 5 felonies. If you have worked with Blaine, contact the Indiana Securities Division on their website.

96th street renovation

What do you get when the mayor, police chief, and company drive through 96th Street at 11 pm at night? $3.7 million in revitalization. (This is a real story the mayor told 😂).

🐘 The elephant in the room: 116th Street gets way more love than 96th Street. It’s also getting a little sketchy. $100s of millions have been spent by businesses on property and offices in the area, and the city wants to be proactive about keeping it nice. Here’s what’s coming:

  • New street lights

  • New medians and landscaping

  • Grant money for businesses to make their buildings look better

But overpaying year after year for every type of insurance? Yeah, that might. Enter: Luke Cathcart. The independent insurance agent who works for you. Not the companies. Luke has personally saved me over $250/year in insurance. All from a free review. Let Luke do the same for you. No strings attached. Get started.
