The Digest

One out of two single family rental homes in Fishers is owned by someone who… doesn’t live here

Taken from 01/13 Fishers City Council meeting

The City of Fishers is exploring a new program that will cap rentals in Fishers at 10% per subdivision - stemming from their 2022 housing study.

Currently, rentals make up 8% of Fishers' single-family homes (2,522 houses). Existing rentals would be grandfathered in, and HOAs could set stricter limits.

This is all early talk, and will be officially proposed sometime this spring, with a rollout in 2026 if their timeline adds up. Listen to the 40 minute work session for more details.

💵 Money Snacks: Early 60s IT manager worth $2.2M making first Europe trip after lifetime of saving

Money Snacks - People Stories is a weekly series showing how people in Fishers/Hamilton County approach money. You will see a huge variety of approaches and stories in the coming weeks. Participate.

Net worth: $2.2 million. We lost a bit of money when we were trying to manage our finances ourselves. Putting money at risk after that was hard.

Local Hack: Take advantage of coupons or specials. When we were starting out, we only drank water when we ate out. Culver’s kids meal is a good deal.

#1 Splurge: When we took vacation with the kids we always let them each pick something they wanted to do. We try to do things out of our comfort zone: white water rafting, climbing via ferrata, ropes courses, etc.

On your mind: Travel. We are making our first trip to Europe. It is exciting and scary.

What’s “rich” in Hamilton County: Driving down certain streets you can see houses that are basically mansions.

But being rich is simpler than that….
