The Digest

Best of 2023 🏆️

2023 was a fun year. Here’s the top 3 best issues for your Sunday reads (based on your readership).

This issue was the number one issue of the 2023. And it was all due to one, tiny section:

Restaurant report cards.

In August, the Health Department announced that every restaurant in Fishers is required to show their inspection grade near their front door. Food trucks will be required to do the same by the end of next year. The city made a dashboard that allows anyone to track a restaurants grade. It also shows you the public report and why they received that grade.

Link to the restaurant dashboard and how it works here.

Foil Hats Required came in at a close second. This issue had more web views than the email itself did 🤯 Over the past few months, the City of Fishers has been revoking the permits for Verizon’s 5g tower deployments. The towers have been built in neighborhoods. And for whatever reason, Verizon went dark on their plans to continue. Even though most of their remaining permits have been revoked, they could get them again in the future.

Third place goes to the trash issue. When Waste Management acquired Ray’s in 2022, everything went downhill. Fishers is moving into 2024 and there are still regular occurrences of entire neighborhoods with missed service, 100% rate increases, and more. Because of this, the City of Fishers is now looking into options for a city-managed trash service.

What do you think?

What were your favorite issues this year? There is a complete archive on both our website and here. I would love to know what you enjoyed the most and want to see more of in 2024.

#2 Safest City in America

One big thing: Fishers is the #2 safest place to live in America.

Every year, MoneyGeek, SmartAsset, and more do studies on cities with populations over 100k. Fishers consistently ranks in the top 10 for cities when it comes to safety. And so do neighboring cities like Carmel and Noblesville.

The list for 2024 was no exception. When it comes to crime, only one other city in the country has a lower “crime cost per capita”. In simpler terms, this is the cost of crime divided by the amount of residents. For Fishers, that number is $296 per resident.

Idaho has their own version of a crystal ball drop, the potato drop. Apparently, spec-taters come from all around for it. And they’ve done it for over 10 years. (link)

This begs a very important question…

What would Indiana's version of a "Potato drop" NYE be?
