Hiring season

Board Resignation: Ray Maddalone, the board secretary for Hamilton East Library, has resigned.

Key Details:

• Maddalone quit on October 5th.

• He was one of two picked by the Hamilton County Commission to help run the library

• A picture taken by Sarah Arbuckle led to complaints filed against Maddalone and the board.

The complaints filed say board members (including Maddalone) broke Open Door Laws. When the the Public Access Counselor released their opinion; Maddalone quit two hours later.

Space trains

About once a week, you’ll see comments in Fishers forums that say something like: “DID ANYONE JUST SEE THAT?!” These are Elon Musk’s “Starlink satellite trains”. Star-gazers have dubbed these a menace, but they are pretty cool if you’re lucky enough to catch them.

In related news: While Starlink trains aren’t alien activity, Ring still thinks there is. They’re offering 1 million dollars for scientific evidence caught on a Ring camera. You have until November 3rd to submit your REAL evidence of aliens 👽️ 

An offer: Sending you, a friend, or your child dressed in an alien costume won’t work for the million. But it will work to win a $500 Amazon card in the contest. If you do try it: post your video, tag us on Instagram, and we’ll feature the video in an upcoming newsletter issue.

City Council tonight

Tonight’s meeting is all about the dollar bills. City Council will vote on approving the budget for 2024. At this point, it’s highly unlikely to be anything but approved. Here’s the quick and dirty on a few things in the budget:

• Invest in teachers, lower taxes, spend some surplus, and re-start 141st/SR37 by April 🙌 (read more here)

Construction this week

Here’s a high-level overview of what’s new this week:

• Milling and resurfacing at Fishers Center Drive moved to Tuesday, October 10th. Expect lane restrictions (it’s on the west end of 116th Street)

• 2023 Resurfacing Project: ADA ramp and curb reconstruction is now complete in all areas. Road resurfacing has begun in Cottingham Estates.
