The Digest

This is what the police were up to on SR 37 this week

Image from the Fishers Police Department FB page

There was a ton of chatter on online forums this week wondering what the heck Fishers PD was doing hanging by one of the bridges on SR37 this week.

Well — here’s exactly what they were doing 😂 Writing A LOT of tickets and trying to get people to slow down. Here’s the full post they made if you want to see it.

Is $2 too much for an admin fee? We don’t know. But the Mayor’s got a good point 👆️

There’s been a lot of discussion on next year’s city managed trash contract, including a $2 fee that the city is tacking on to your $16/mo payment. They say it’s an admin fee to cover the cost of staff and software to run customer service when the new contract starts.

LarryinFishers who regularly attends these government meetings has a great update for you:

The Mayor isn’t sorry about the fee 🤷 His reasoning is somewhat valid and we’ll just use his quote here: “The last thing I want to do is save people money on trash, and then they’re still frustrated because we are providing poor customer service”

Alright, you need to keep it down! 🔉

A proposed amendment to reduce noise within the City of Fishers is moving forward after a first reading was approved on Aug. 19.

Fishers is growing and many commercial properties have been built next to residential areas, and people are complaining.

The current max decibel level is 90 and the proposal would set the max to 70, with exceptions for holidays and city-sponsored events (like concerts). The mayor said language adjustments will be made to the ordinance to make nice for both businesses and residents.

🚨 Buying/selling your home? Don’t be uninformed.

Kelly here! New rules have changed how real estate commissions work. As a seller, you were never required to offer a set commission to buyer's agents through the MLS. This means you do have more flexibility in negotiating commission fees when buying or selling a home.

To be honest with you — Commission fees have ALWAYS been negotiable. But you might not know that if you haven’t worked with an upfront real estate agent. 🤷

When laws like these make changes that majorly disrupt the way things have been — having the right realtor on your side is more important than ever.

Local Business

Fishers Freight hired a coach 🏈

The Fishers Freight, Fishers’ new Indoor Football League franchise, is gearing up for their 2025 debut. The team just announced their first head coach, Dixie Wooten, a proven winner with an impressive 85-38 record as a pro football coach.

Wooten, who hails from near Houston, TX, is excited about building community connections. "Fishers is the best place to live voted by America," he said. "Why not make Fishers the best place to be when it comes to professional Indoor Football?"

Hey man, we completely agree. Let’s do exactly that 💪

The Freight will play at the brand-new Fishers Event Center starting March 2025.

Another Hoosier is going to the Olympics

Indy local Tommy Sliva has been a long-time participant in Special Olympics, and will soon represent the U.S. in Alpine skiing at the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Silva earned his spot earlier this year in Salt Lake City, and will compete alongside athletes from 100 other countries. Good luck, Tommy!

Melt n Dip is open 🫕 🍫

We tried the newly open Melt n Dip on the corner of 116th and Cumberland. Verdict? The chocolate tastes as good as it looks.

This elegant coffee and chocolate lounge serves up crepes, gelato, platters of fresh fruit salads, and a variety of waffle creations. Something to wash it down? They also serve Turkish coffee!

We recommend this as a sharing event — the crepes are large and indulgent (and a little pricey). But your taste buds will say thank you.
