  • Square pizza

  • Weekly construction update

This issue is 1,185 words, a 4-minute read.

The Digest

🚲️ Number 8 most bikeable city in Indiana

I know, I know. It’s not exactly biking weather. But the latest Redfin list for bikeable cities in Indy just dropped. Redfin is one of the big realtor apps like Zillow, Realtor, and Trulia. According to their data, Fishers gets a score of 52/100. A score in that range means there is some biking infrastructure, but it’s not enough to be convenient for most trips.

Their maps are a little impersonal though. So here is Hamilton County Tourism’s biking guide for Fishers. It shows the most popular bike loops, as well as all the parks that have their own biking system.

The article also says Fishers is known for Conner Prairie and Geist Reservoir. But what do you think? What else is Fishers known for? Leave feedback below or by replying to this email! I’ll feature a few responses in an upcoming issue.

Oh, and this award means another for Carl’s belt.

Vibrancy grants

Part of the 2024 budget includes $750k in neighborhood vibrancy grants. The grants are good for up to $15,000. They’ll be given on a rolling basis, and the deadline for the first wave is tomorrow, January 31st. If you haven’t applied yet, here’s a few ideas that most neighborhoods could use:

  • Replace old trees with native trees (looking at you, Bradford Pears)

  • Replace/upgrade fountain ponds

  • Improve walking paths/trails

  • New street lights/signs

Napkin math: There’s some ~250 or so neighborhoods in Fishers. With a $750k pool, if every neighborhood applied, each hood could get around $3,000. This is not how the process works at all but does highlight the scale of this grant.

🇺🇸 The American Dream*

It’s no secret. Fishers is a desirable place to live. And according to online realtor data, ~80% of residents in Fishers have or will move somewhere else within the city.

When that happens, there’s a part of the process that doesn’t get as much glamor - your mortgage loan. Getting the right rate, with the right lender, on the best possible terms is something best left to the experts.

That’s where Dana Greenwood with American Dream Mortgage LLC steps in. He’s the type of guy you call when you “just need something done and don’t want to think about it”. His process is super simple, whether it’s a cash-out refinance to consolidate debt or buying a new home.

Call Dana today at 317-713-1221 or visit his website if you plan on buying or refinancing your home in the next 90 days.

Rapid Fire Hits

Quick headlines and things to know from all around 🌐

Last week, it was Google building a $4 billion data center in Fort Wayne. This week, it’s Meta (Facebook parent company) building an $800 million datacenter in Jeffersonville. They plan for it to run on 100% renewable energy. Who’s got an Amazon announcement next week on your bingo card? (link)

Fishers officially announced their partnership with the Indianapolis Art Center. They will operate the Fishers Art Center, which will be on the first floor of the new city hall building. They will operate on a $75k budget and split the revenue from events they hold. Word on the street is a ~mid-May opening for the new building. (link)

😢 Science says crying once a week can relieve stress. So someone made a website that plays one tear-jerker video for you a week. Kind of cool. And sad. Mostly sad. (link)

Foodies: Cunningham Group will be offering delivery in Downtown Indy soon. There’s no word on other areas, but this is a good sign if you love getting food delivered. (link)

Square pizza? 🍕

Here’s the sauce. There’s a pizza place called Sam’s Square Pies in Indy. They’ve been around for a few months but haven’t had a brick-and-mortar location (until recently). They would do limited “pizza drops” that people on social media have been raving about. So I caved and spent more $ on pizza than I ever have in my life. And I pick it up in 2 weeks. Wild! I hope those of you who have had it are right about this one 🤣

As of writing Monday, there are a few pickup times left in the coming weeks. You can view them here.

Pinheads re-opens Thursday

Napoleon Dynamite Reaction GIF

One big thing: Pinheads will be open again starting Thursday, February 1st. Their first event back? Music bingo 🕺🪩

A few weeks ago, Pinheads suffered from a kitchen fire that forced them to close down for a few weeks. In their Facebook post, they announced not only are they re-opening, but there will be a new type of experience as well. Pinheads is calling it the first in Indiana. Way to build suspense!

Nothing in this section is sponsored. It’s just things you should know.

Construction This Week

Only one big thing to note this week:

  • This Thursday, the westbound lane of 146th Street/Allisonville Road will be restricted for some concrete pouring. This will happen from 9 am to 3 pm.
