This issue is 1,304 words, a 4-minute read.

The Digest

Trash Moving forward, two more votes till ✅

City managed trash is moving forward, and the next vote is on City Council August 19th (next Monday!). You can attend that meeting @ 7 p.m. at 1 Municipal Drive.

The best news? You won’t have cancellation fees. So don’t worry about that if you aren’t a Republic customer yet. The city made every trash provider waive them in order to bid 🔥

New Parking Lot for the Nickel Plate Trail 🛣️

The pin/red square is where the new parking lot is

The parking lot project to connect the Nickel Plate Trail and Cheeney Creek Trail is now open 🎉 It’s directly across the street from the Hub & Spoke building (8100 E. 106th Street)

3rd grade reading scores 📈

The number of third-graders passing IREAD went from 92.9% in 2023 to 94.2% in 2024.

What is IREAD? It’s the Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination (IREAD-3). An online, untimed, multiple-choice assessment that measures third and second grade students' reading skills in Indiana.

Why is this important? Students who don’t pass this test in 3rd grade will be held back from the 4th grade. With the state goal being a 95%, HSE is crushing it.

Your Fishers library card gets you more than books 📚

During the month of September, your card will get you discounts at a ton of local businesses. Agave, Bruster’s, Penn and Beech, and Torchy’s Tacos just to name a few.

If you don’t have one, you can get one anytime by going to the library. BUT if you wait to sign up or renew until September 21st, you’ll get to be a part of their attempt to break a record for most signups in any past September 😂

Pro tip: Your library card may be better than an Amazon subscription. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can ask the library to get it. If they can buy it, they usually will 🔥 Here’s a video guide on how to make that request!
