⛵Thanksgiving Assistant

PLUS: parking isn't free at the event center, some local spotlights, and events for the week

This issue in partnership with:

Good Tuesday Morning. This is Fishers Digest. We don’t fry turkeys, but we do serve up news and events that are just as juicy.

In today’s digest:

  • Your Fishers assistant

  • No, parking is not free

  • Who is Mike Lindbloom?

  • Construction report

— Written by Lindsey Watson and Skyler Braun

This issue is 1,280 words, a 4-minute read.

❌ We made a few mistakes in last Friday’s newsletter. We mistakenly referred to Mr. Mapes as Dr. Mapes, and the carwash is coming to 96th Street/Lantern Road, not 116th. Please forgive us!

The Digest

Your Fishers Assistant

Many of us will have friends and family coming to town. Some will have little turkeys in tow, others might just be hunting for pumpkin pie.

Rather than spelling out a guide, I think today’s newsletter should cover the week.

If you feel like there isn’t something in here for you, just reply to this email with what you got goin’ on and I’ll try and help you out 🤝 Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

-Skyler

Parking ain’t free

The next 3 events happening

The bad news: If you didn’t pay for parking at the Fishers Event Center Friday night, you’ll be getting an invoice in the mail. There are license plate readers that send it automatically if you didn’t pay 🤯

The good news: The launch of the Fishers Event Center otherwise looks like a huge success. The IBJ and other outlets gave it high marks, Facebook is filled with comments like “zero issues, amazing night”. I didn’t go so I can’t compliment it, but in my scanning for news it’s almost all positive.

If you missed last Friday, fret not. There are three events going into the next week. All still have tickets!

New MVCCD Mike Lindbloom

= Most Valuable Community Center Director. In case you didn’t know, we are getting a massive new community center next year.

With pickleball courts, a café, a dog park, and a health clinic — it’ll be like a Swiss Army knife for wellness. And Lindbloom’s the guy making sure it runs like one. He’s been helping Hoosiers get fit for over 15 years 💪 Here’s his profile from Current.

It’s hopeful to open next fall. I often see posts that Fishers doesn’t have enough “third places”. I have a feeling this could become one for a lot of people.

The Happenings

Your week preview 📆

🦃 🏃 1… 2… Turkey Trot

Pants already feeling tight? 😆 You can still register for two Thanksgiving Day trots before the big meal:

Fishers YMCA Wishbone 5k — starts at the Y and goes through downtown Fishers

Gobbler’s Jog 5k — starts and runs all through Saxony

If you’ll be celebrating in Indianapolis, here are eight more from Axios to check out.

Local blooms for the table

The Noblesville Flower Market wants to help you score big points for table decor! Pick up a bouquet for Turkey Day on Wednesday between 5-8 pm at Seminary Park. This will be the last flower market for the year! And word on the street is Santa might be there too.

We were on a BREAK!

Could you BE a bigger Friends fan? Parks Place Pub is hosting Friends Trivia tomorrow from 7-9 pm. This might be a fun way to entertain the relatives in town. Bring your friends, or meet fellow fans of the show. Instant connection!

The HC Tavern & Kitchen will transform part of their restaurant into “The Nutcracker Suite” on select Sundays and Mondays beginning this weekend.

This is a 21+ up event but will unleash your inner child with the magical story of young Clara and her nutcracker doll. Enjoy life-size replicas, seasonal cocktails, and festive decor.

👆️ Our pro tip: Reservations aren’t available, so arrive at opening to secure a seat!

Opt for outside 🌲

If Black Friday is the opposite of a good time for you: All 24 Indiana State Parks are free this Friday. The closest to us is Fort Ben. If you’re willing to drive an hour you can make it to others like Brown County State Park.

Also, is Black Friday even a thing anymore? Isn’t it Black Friday week now?

Coming soon 🔜

🧠 Free Trivia Night for a Cause: Join MDFF at Ale Emporium next Tuesday (12/3) at 6:30 pm for trivia, raffles, and inspiring stories. Donations support families living with muscular dystrophy. Info here.

Local Business

🦕 Fishers Fam Returns to Macy’s Parade

The Simonett family from Fishers will be back on your TVs for a second Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Last year, they helped guide Bluey the puppy through NYC streets. This year, it’s the Sinclair Dinosaur.

Handling these 70-foot balloons isn’t as easy as 'smile and wave.'

Imagine this: hauling a massive helium beast down 2 ½ miles of Manhattan streets, battling gusty winds, and keeping it from getting tangled—or worse, escaping. Part parade, part survival sport 🤣

A pie pickup roundup

In charge of a Thanksgiving dessert? Here are some local bakeries that can help you out before Thursday:

🥧 Spencer Farm > open T & W 10 am-5 pm

🥧 Rise’n Roll Bakery > open M-W 7 am-5 pm

🥧 Taylor’s Bakery > open T-W 7 am- 5 pm

🥧 Generations Pie (Fortville) > open M-W 10 am - 5 pm

🥧 Food Florist > open M-W 9 am - 6 pm

Shop local 🛍

Small Business Saturday is coming up this weekend on November 30th, so don’t forget to eat and shop local — show your favorite small biz some love. 💚

When you shop around town instead of in big box stores, the whole community benefits. Around 67 cents of every dollar spent at local businesses stays in the local economy, compared to only 43 cents when spent at national chains.

We wrote a blog post with all the details and compiled a list of our favorite local Fishers businesses to give you a head start.
