⛵️ The final boss of roundabouts

PLUS: thanking the chief, st. paddy's day, and your construction report

Brought to you by:

Good Tuesday Morning. This is Fishers Digest. The local newsletter that gives you the same feeling as opening your bank account on payday.

☀️ Today's weather: Sunny, with a high near 69°.

Heads up. The statewide tornado siren testing is at 10:15 this morning. You can learn everything you need to about this week and the testing here. They canceled last friday’s test because of bad weather.

In today’s digest:

  • Thanks chief!

  • 116th/Olio Roundabout

  • St Paddy’s Day

This issue is 1,581 words, a 5-minute read.

The Digest

Thank you for your service, Chief Arusa 🚒

Fire Chief Steve Orusa will not keep his position this year. After 14 years of service to the City of Fishers, he announced his retirement.

So what’s next for Fishers? Recruitment time. The next few months will be a time for fresh change says Mayor Fadness. Chief Steve Orusa has committed to delaying his official retirement until a transition can happen sometime this Fall. Thank you for everything you have done for the community Chief, cheers! 🍻

Final boss of roundabouts

This is not a real rendering. I jokingly asked AI to make the most difficult-to-use roundabout it could think of. Enjoy.

Most of the major intersections in Fishers are being “roundaboutified”. And the last bastion of normal intersections may soon fall.

The Indy MPO is looking for projects to be funded by Summer 2027. One project on that list is building a roundabout at 116th and Olio. They think the current intersection is a safety concern. Which I think almost everyone would agree with. The roundabout would have two lanes on each side, with three going north from the south.

They’re looking for public comments on it, which you can provide at [email protected]. Or by mail to 200 East Washington Street, Suite 2322, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Or by phone to their voicemail line at 317-327-8601.

Also on the list is building a pedestrian bridge on the Nickel Plate Trail that passes over Keystone. You can provide feedback for that too if you like, but it’s not in Fishers, just connects with the trail.

Special thanks to reader and local Henok Cronin for finding this one.

This 5-bedroom, 5-bath luxury pad sprawls over 5,000 square feet. It's the dream setup for a family haven. From its renovated kitchen to beautiful hardscaping, it truly needs nothing and is move-in ready.

Now's your chance to see it in person. Reach out to Kelly Dather and snag a spot for a private walkthrough. Or see it here on his website The Kelly Dather Real Estate Group | KW Indy Metro Northeast | Fishers, IN | 317-496-9308

The Happenings

🐝 Beekeeping 101 at the Fishers Agripark hosted by the North Central Indiana Beekeepers Club. This is part 1 of a 2-part session, with part 2 being next month. Saturday (3/16) from 2 - 3:30 pm at the Fishers Agripark.

Fun fact: In 2019, a Senate bill made it illegal for cities to ban beekeeping. If you’ve ever thought about having bees, check your HOA bylaws and read this Fishers city ordinance. As long as you follow those rules, you can maybe have bees. Just please make sure. I don’t want to become a witness for a bee trial 😂

Construction This Week

Something no local wants to hear. Another intersection is closing down. Luckily it should only be about 6 months if everything cooperates. Here’s what’s new:

  • 106th Street and Cumberland Road will be closed next week for the construction of a roundabout. It will be closed until mid October.
