The Digest

⏸️ Library presses pause

Two big things: The library board voted 7-0 to pause the review of books. Tiffanie Ditlesvon is the new board president.

The library board was packed. People standing anywhere there was space and overflowing out the doors. Every media company in Indianapolis had a camera set-up. It felt like one of those “Has this ever happened in history?” moments.

There was a debate between the library director and the board on what books should and shouldn’t be moved. Both sides got hung up on what “explicit” content means.

Why it matters: The disconnect leads to the board voting to re-work the policy details. Pausing the book review means a few things for the library:

  1. Any books that have been moved will stay where they are (except maybe TFIOS)

  2. They will not unpause the policy until a meeting is held to “hash out“ the details of what the policy is meant to be

Maybe things are starting to find a middle ground.

Clear the shelters

The Hamilton County Humane Society has over 600 animals. This weekend, you can choose how much you want to pay to adopt a pet. As one of the country's only “no-kill” shelters, dogs really are waiting to be brought in to be saved. This event aims to help make that room.
