The Digest

Money + noise at yesterday’s city council meeting

Here's what went down at last night's meeting:

✅ Passed the 2025 budget for City of Fishers (view it here)
✅ Increased employee salaries
✅ Sewer rates going up $3/mo
✅ City managed trash will be $16.39/month

🌶️ A 30 minute debate on what to do with noise ended with… no progress. Councilors couldn’t agree on what to do.

The goal was to bring down Fishers 90 dB (decibels) noise cap to around 70. Make things a little more bearable for people who live near places where live music happens.

But the police found that would be basically unenforceable, because the ambient noise at places like Park Place Pub and King Jugg were over 70 when they weren’t open! The funny part was when a council member whipped out their phone and clocked the meeting convo about the noise at 75 dB.

So the Fishers Police proposal of 80 to be a happy medium was not enough to make everyone happy — so nothing passed and now it stays at 90 for the next month at least.

HSE charter school proposal and a local debate 📚️

HSE is exploring what it would take to open a new vocational charter school in 2026 to help students train for different careers—think nursing, welding, and more.

For now it’s just talk, as the district has hit pause to gather more community feedback.

The IndyStar does a much deeper dive on this. You can probably bet this will be a debate topic in Thursday’s candidate debate. Which will be live-streamed here.

Early voting starts today 🗳️

As long as you’re registered to vote, you can cast your ballot at any voting location in Hamilton County.

If you want to vote as early as possible, voting starts at 8 am in Noblesville at One Hamilton County Square. Other places like Holland + Billericay Park will come online to vote starting the 23rd.

Pit stop q: best place to take out-of-town friends? 🤔

I took an Australian friend to 1933 Lounge and Sun King the other week. First time in Indiana. It was great. But it got me wondering.

Did we hit the right spots to bring an out-of-towner?

I often wonder what’s the right way to introduce someone to Fishers, much less America. So I’m curious if anyone has some suggestions. Maybe I can share a list in the future to help us all out when we’re in that spot.

The Happenings

Your week preview 📆

We want your October to be spookishly good, so we rounded up all of the Halloween Happenings this month and stored them here.

Fall Festival at Fishers AgriPark

Friendly Reminder that the Fall Festival at the Fishers AgriPark is this week, Oct. 8-12 from 4-8 pm. You must register ahead of time ($5 for Fishers residents and $7.50 non-residents).

The event includes a scarecrow trail, animal encounters, a campfire + s’mores, pumpkin painting, and more. There’s also a scarecrow contest between City of Fishers employees, and attendees vote for the best one 👩‍🌾

A twilight event for your tween

Is your mini-me itching to break out the Halloween vibes? The Children's Museum has you covered this Saturday with Twilight Fright. It's like Halloween pregaming, but for the 7-14 crowd.

From 6:30-9 PM, expect two trips down the "Witch Way Road Trip," a live DJ, games galore, and cameos from USA Track and Field and Naptown Roller Derby athletes. Hungry monsters can refuel with Hot Box pizza and Kona Ice. Register here.

Local Business

Fishers airport feels the need... the need for corporate speed 🛩️💼

Fishers Metropolitan Airport just got its first upgrade in 20 years. Why? Seems the corporate crowd prefers our runways to the Indy airport's hustle and bustle. (Having Andretti Global HQ next door probably doesn't hurt either. 🏎️)

The new addition is a 12,000 sq. ft. hangar that can house planes up to 26 feet tall. But Airport Manager Tom McCord isn't stopping there. He's eyeing a runway extension to welcome even larger corporate jets.

For now, the jumbo jets will have to stick to their regular tower flybys at IND.

A new book lounge to open this week 📖

Chapter Book Lounge is a new bookstore and community space opening this Wednesday in Noblesville. This may become your fav local spot to shop for new and used books and sip on coffee, wine, and craft cocktails.

The lounge is located on the corner of Conner St. and N. 10th St. in the downtown square area, and offers a space to host your book club, a place to cozy up in a quiet corner, and a venue to attend author events. We can’t wait to check it out!

Smitten Kitten 🐈️

Last week, a reader told me they adopted cats from Smitten Kitten after seeing a post we made about them. I ❤️ love hearing stories like that!

If you haven’t been there yet, go visit—it’s part café, part cat wonderland. Very clean, well-organized, and a different experience than you can usually bargain for in Fishers.

Construction This Week

Monon 🔄 Nickel Plate bridge update

A view of the bridge construction from the Heritage Park side.

Support beams are up and construction's buzzing along the river loop trail at Heritage Park. So here is an updated image on how it’s going.

The bridge will connect the Monon to the Nickel Plate Trail with an expected completion date of August 2025.

While the bridge will be a scenic view, cyclists and pedestrians should still anticipate a bit of a trek to get to the NPT once you’ve crossed over. There’s always room for a rest break at the historic Ambassador House and gardens, though 😥

For everything else going on this week, check out the full construction report for this week here.

Thanks!
