The Digest

New trade location

Meeting a random person online can be a little scary. Especially when it’s high value transaction. The Fishers Police Station now offers a “Safe Trade Zone” where you can meet people with a little more peace. The area is monitored by cameras with a phone nearby in case you need it. Big stuff like couches will probably still need to be done outside.

Napkin math: Fishers has around 100,000 people. 90% of the US population uses the internet. 71.43% of internet users use Facebook. And 40% of Facebook users have used Facebook Marketplace. That gets us to ~25k people in Fishers who might use this space 🤯 Facebook isn’t the only marketplace, so that number could be bigger.

Devour Fishers

Fishers is packed full of awesome places to eat during Devour Indy. It’s a two-week special event where you can try fixed-price 3 course meals around the city. Devour Indy happens twice a year, and the 2024 Winterfest goes from January 22, 2024 – February 2, 2024. If you’re a foodie, this is the best time of year to go out to eat.

The Happenings

The tenderloin signal

> I’m officially dubbing the above picture the “Tenderloin Signal”. It’s like the batsignal but better. This Thursday, Swayzee Tenderloins will be posted up at O’Reilly Auto Parts. They are selling both original and spicy breaded tenderloins for your freezer. The window is short from 3-4:30 pm. 14067 Trade Center Dr, Fishers, IN, 46038

> Sun King Brewery event tickets always go fast. In a few weeks, they’re co-hosting a “Sips and Wicks” with Penn and Beech. You’ll make valentine’s candles while drinking craft beer. Limited tickets here.

> H7 Networking events are a great way to casually meet business professionals in Fishers. They host weekly events throughout the year. More details for this Wednesday here.

🧊 Veal’s Ice Tree is back. The Veal family “ice engineers” need 5-10 days of below freezing temps to make their iconic tree. The past few weeks were perfect for that. It’s free to visit at 6445 Mimosa Lane from 8 am to 10 pm. Don’t miss out! As temps rise the tree will quickly melt this week. It’s truly amazing. (link)

Civil meetings

The Fall Creek Board of Zoning Appeals meets at Launch Fishers (12175 Visionary Way) this Wednesday at 7 pm. The only agenda item is a public hearing on a variance for land use on 96th street. Presumably for a restaurant or coffee shop. Agenda here.

The HSE School Board meets at the HSE administration building this Wednesday at 6 pm. This is the first meeting of the year at the new time. You can view the agenda here, or live stream the meeting by going here.

Luke might save you 41 coffees*

You’ve made your 2024 New Year’s resolutions. One of them is to stop eating out as much. Another is to stop going to Starbucks and make coffee at home. Those are great, and I wish you luck. But what about your insurance? What if you were saving $250/year, had better coverage, and did zero work. In Starbucks coffee terms, that’s ~41 coffees a year.

So how does that work? Luke Cathcart is an independent financial planner who works for you, not the companies. All you have to do is call him, and he will do a complete review of your policies. For free! No strings attached.

You can reach him at 317-225-6105 or email him by clicking here.

The Mira Awards are the Indianapolis “Oscars for Tech”. It’s a black-tie event celebrating the cool, innovative people and businesses in tech. There are plenty of tech companies in Fishers. > Nominations are available until next Sunday, January 28th

> Nominees are announced on February 20th

> The awards ceremony and afterparty are on April 26th

You can nominate your friends or a business here.

Drive Planning

Last Wednesday, a new building for Drive Planning was approved by City Council. It’s a bit of unique building, in both its design and the way it’s facing. So it required approval. It will be on the east side of 116th near the Kroger. Drive Planning is a financial group helping with tax strategies, investment advising, and more.

Here are the high-level construction updates for this week:

  • The Sunblest neighborhood sidewalk repair is still happening. Any sidewalk that poses a toe or tripping hazard will be replaced.

  • You can no longer exit to 82nd Street going south on I-69. This will be this way until sometime this summer. All the work will be complete by the end of 2024. Check out the below image for what traffic in the area looks like now. You can also watch a fly through video of what everything will look like once it’s complete here.
