Do you have a spooky kitchen?*

Do you have a spooky kitchen? Not the haunted house kind - we're talking cabinets that make your guests do a double-take. The ones with that color that might have been trendy... during the Carter administration.

Start planning your next kitchen look and turn your kitchen's fright factor into "wow" factor with Spray-Net's cabinet painting. The Digest

Parker Melling the .18%er

Did you know it’s possible to get a perfect ACT score? Parker Melling, a Fishers Senior, is now part of an elite group of people who can say they have.

Perspective: 1,386,335 students took the ACT in 2023. Only 2,542 got a perfect score 🤯

What an insane achievement. Congrats Parker, whatever college you choose will be lucky to have you!

HSE school budget, race buzz 🐝

Last week, HSE laid out a $323.6 million budget for the coming fiscal year (about $26.5 million more than this year’s budget). Rising costs and declining enrollment are the biggest takeaways from the presentation here. Here are a few examples:

  • $2 million increase in medical insurance costs for district employees 🏥

  • $500K+ increase in teacher retirement contributions 👩🏻‍🏫

  • K-4 enrollment projected to decrease by 3.62% 📉

Another buzzy topic this month is the HSE school board race. Here is WFYI’s breakdown of each candidate, what they stand for, and a recent debate held among them.

Portable classrooms getting the 🪓

The spotlight was also on slashing portable classrooms across HSE schools. There are 27 portables now, and Brooks School Elementary will lose three after winter break, bringing the total to 24.

Changes aren’t just stopping at portables. HSE is planning to redraw school boundaries after Fishers Elementary finishes remodeling in 2026. Demographic studies coming out later this year will help decide the new lines.

Early voting — patience may be required 🗳️

The good news ✅ Voter turnout is next level this year. Good job, Indiana!

The bad news ❌ You might not walk right in to press your buttons. Plan for at least one hour + and you likely won’t be disappointed.

The two early voting locations for most Fishers residents are Billericay Park and Holland Park. Here are the times:

  • October 30 + 31: 2 - 7 pm

  • November 1 + 2: 10 - 3 pm

The Happenings

Your week preview 📆

It’s finally the week of Halloween! 🎃 Here’s how to do it in Fishers:

A well done Axios Indianapolis poll says 2-3 pieces of candy per trick-or-treater is the right amount. But dang, I want to know where those of you are who are passing out 4+ 😂 If you think this is a hot take, check out more results from their polls.

Halloween hours for Fishers are 5:30 - 8:30 pm.

If you won’t be staying local to trick-or-treat, here’s a quick guide for other counties and cities in Central Indiana.

Alternative to regular door knocking: Noblesville Flower Market 💐🍬

Seminary Park is hosting a Halloween-inspired market on Thursday from 5-8 pm. They’ll host a costume contest, give out candy to trick-or-treaters, and of course sell their famous blooms too. Could be a cool way to do Halloween a little differently this year!

Peace, Wine, Swifties

You can celebrate Swift’s final concerts here from Nov. 1-3 at Peace Water Winery during their Swiftie weekend. The Mass Ave location will have special bracelet-making, if you want to make your way downtown for that!

Heritage goods + corn cocktails

Conner Prairie is hosting their Holiday Heritage Market on Nov. 2 from 10 am-3 pm. The market offers historic and handmade goods like pottery, textiles, and meat products developed by the Agriculture department. You’ll also get a glimpse into the cool workshops offered… who doesn’t want to get into leather-working or axe forging?

And bonus: joining this event might even mean scoring early tickets to the 2025 Corn to Cocktail series before tickets are available. 🌽

Local Business

Fishers Event Center: Sneak Peek

This YouTube video from Inside Indiana Business is pretty awesome and gives you a sneak peek video tour + interviews from last week’s media walkthrough.

If that isn’t enough, check out the A-Z guide for all things event center opening later in November.

A review of Twigs & Tea

The Twigs Trio — signature chicken salad + egg salad + seasonal soup. Don’t skimp on adding a scone and clotted cream.

So the holidays are around the corner and you need somewhere impressive to take your MIL or Grandma Betty while they’re in town. Look no further than the adorable Twigs & Tea, an idyllic house-turned-tea-room that serves seasonal breakfast, lunch, tea, and desserts. Fun fact, owner Debbie Cook was nominated and on our Amazing People Index!

Choose from their menu of soup, salads, quiches, and sandwiches. Or perhaps just opt for high tea and dessert instead. You’ll love the hot tea served in a personal pot, the dainty trays and serve ware, and don’t miss the homemade scones with a dollop of clotted cream. That was my favorite thing!

Reservations are definitely recommended — it’s a small eatery. But if you can’t dine in, at least shop the holiday retail inside. It’s hard not to leave with something. 😉

Kura: Revolving Sushi Bar is coming soon™️

You’ve probably seen the ads they’re blasting on social media — they’re opening soon. No official date, but you can signup with your email here to get $5 off when they do open.

There are some pretty sweet jobs available too, like being a fish cutter 🔪

Construction This Week

Photo: Indiana Department of Transportation: East Central

Bottom line: if you travel anywhere downtown during the weekend, it’s probably smart to plan ahead.

There will be extensive traffic challenges in downtown Indy for the Taylor Swift takeover. Here’s the full list of road closures, interstate and exit closures, & traffic diversions from Nov. 1-4.

There isn’t much new to share on the Fishers side, but you can still check out the full Fishers construction report for this week here.

Thanks!
