The Digest

Say hey to Fishers Digest’s new wordsmith, Lindsey 👋

Please welcome the newest writer for Fishers Digest, Lindsey! She will bring the firepower this newsletter needs to continue to grow and serve you and the community. She’s a master storyteller + former English teacher turned full-time mom. Even better is that she’s written local content before, so she has all the skills.

She’s already been jazzing up your content. 50% of last week’s newsletters were written by her 😉 If you see Lindsey around, please say hey! You can also email her at [email protected].

Will Fishers be getting a lazy river? 🤔

Groundbreaking on Lantern Road, with the Alhuda Foundation Mosque in the background

The answer is no. But that didn’t stop the developers of CityWalk from trying! At yesterday’s groundbreaking, Mayor Fadness shared that the original proposal included a lazy river, over 10 stories, and a few other things that were tapered down 😂

CityWalk will still be the tallest building in Fishers at seven stories, edging out First Internet Bank’s six. This means it will easily become a landmark downtown.

There are no projected opening dates yet, but the project is fully funded and has all the necessary approvals. Check out their website for pictures and videos of what’s to come!

Hamilton Soil and Water wants to help you get rid of your trees

As a resident of Hamilton County, you are eligible for up to $400 to help remove Bradford Pear trees off your property. Why are they doing this? Because these are an invasive species and cause huge problems for our ecosystem — essentially they are evicting native trees and, in turn, eradicating our biodiversity. Kinda important.

Deer won’t eat them, and bees and wildlife continue to spread their seeds everywhere. It’s sort of up to us to help nature along at this point. 🪓

Applying to get funding is easy, and available on their website here!

Charm at every corner*

Welcome to 13487 Molique Blvd, where Saxony style and maintenance-free magic meet 🤝  Not only is this home gorgeous with its wide-plank hardwood and warm colors — it’s perfectly situated.

By car you’re next to I-69, Hamilton Town Center, and HSE Schools. Walking, you’re minutes away from Saxony Beach, shops, and walking trails. Heck, your kid could even walk to school from here.

Being a townhome, you can forget about things like yard work and exterior maintenance. Your only job is to own it, build equity, and love it (you will). When you see the master suite complete with a new walk-in shower, you’ll have a hard time saying no.

If you’re interested in living in this beautiful corner lot, you’ll want to contact Stephanie Cook with the Kelly Dather Real Estate Group. More pics and contact info here.

How to get Mother’s Day right 💐

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12. There is a LOT going on to celebrate that special lady in your life, so don’t hold back. Would she prefer a cabaret jazz brunch at Feinstein’s, afternoon tea at Cake Bake Shop, or pottery painting at Kiln Creations?

Happy hour is returning to Indiana on July 1! Yes, we know we already mentioned this a while back, but we found something cool. Check it out below.

More context: The House voted to approve the return of happy hours back in March, and later Gov. Eric Holcomb signed the bill into law again at (where else?), a bar — the Whistle Stop Inn to be exact.

The Happy Hour Finder filters restaurants and pubs by name, address, or day of the week. Cheers to saving money and time searching.

Answered

Last Friday, I listed a few of the amazing things about May. A few of you responded with more additions:

  • The Pacers are moving on in the Playoffs 🏀

  • Mother’s Day (cannot believe I missed this one, sorry moms!)

  • Putting your boat in the water

Construction This Week

Here’s a high-level. If you’re new here, these are only recent changes to the weekly reports Fishers sends out.

  • Britton Park Road (South of the fork) and Trade Center Drive are being rebuilt. Signage regarding traffic restrictions is up, and restrictions will begin on Thursday, May 9.

  • 96th Street/Allisonville is the root of traffic frustration right now. The city website has some tips on detours.

  • 106th Street between Cumberland Road and Hamilton Pass will be closed until October

If you prefer a map view, this map usually has where construction is happening. It’s usually accurate!

Thanks!
