Two hour delay for HSES + Spring Break 🏖️
“Hamilton Southeastern Schools will operate on a two-hour delay, today, January 21, 2025. Additionally, morning classes for HSE Preschool and the Academy are canceled.”
On school news: I am getting a lot of traffic to my site for Spring Break 2025 dates because I have a 2025-2026 calendar posted.
But, my guess is you are trying to plan this Spring Break. In which case:
April 4-11(13 if you count Sat/Sun)
You can see the district calendars here.

Money Snacks - Mid 30s teacher making $75k tracking "every dollar's job" while raising three kids

Money Snacks - People Stories is a new weekly series showing how people in Fishers/Hamilton County approach money. You will see a huge variety of approaches and stories in the coming weeks. Participate.
Salary Growth: When I started teaching, $35,000. My first paycheck was the most amount of money I’ve ever had come my way in a single go. Now it’s about $75k with my masters degree.
Local Hack: Hamilton County is full of Joneses - don't try to keep up with them. Share plates at restaurants, use the trails system, and take advantage of warehouse deals.
Kids & Money: Kids are simply stupid expensive. Everything costs more than when we were DINKs in our 20s. Groceries, electric bills, gas, daycare, healthcare, household goods, subscriptions - can't name a single thing that's cheaper now.
Favorite restaurant: Patachou (they just opened one downtown Fishers!) - it's my go to for any random lunch or breakfast.
Best Money Decision: Reading the Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko. If this entire survey was one question about how to better your finances, my answer would be to read this book. Multiple times.

🍟 Steak 'n Shake Goes Old School with Beef Tallow
Steak 'n Shake fries are about to get a major upgrade.
All locations are going 100% beef tallow by end of February - the original way french fries were cooked before modern oils took over.
📚️ Some history: Steak n’ Shake is pushing 100 years, founded in 1934. The history of it’s ups and downs are interesting, and this Indy Encyclopedia article is pretty good if you want to get into it a bit.
