The Digest

The Amazing People Index 🤝

This was a super fun experiment that led to unexpected conversations and great stories. If you see your name here, someone locally thought you were just swell and worth writing about. And equally cool are the people who nominated you.

This list has just about everything: leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, advocates, spouses, and more. Here we go 👏

  • Waseema Ali

  • Sara Baird

  • Mary Susan Buhner

  • Linda Calvin

  • Debbie Cook

  • Teresa Conroy-Roth

  • Nathan Davis

  • Dan Dezelan

  • Molly Dubovec

Hamilton County's $85M Safety Upgrade

Located in Noblesville, this $85 million three-story public safety center will rehome 911 dispatch and emergency operations that are currently crammed in the sheriff's office basement 😂

Why it matters: The county's growing, and so are demands for emergency services. The current center's maxed out — so this upgrade would help emergency response for our 17 local agencies.

The ground breaking was earlier this week, and construction starts next month. It should take two years.

Ever seen 465 flood like this before?

Shot taken from a traffic cam

Not sure much else needs to be said here. Pretty crazy. Yesterday’s flash floods and storms were intense, and certain parts of the area got hit hard. Hopefully everyone is alright!

The Happenings

Weekend preview 📆

ICYMI from Tuesday’s issue:

> Gen Con goes on through Sunday. You can get exclusive food and drinks from local businesses like Daniel’s Vineyard at the block party every day from 9 am to 9 pm.
> The State Fair 2.0 starts today with over 15 new things to do. We wrote a Hot/Not list from a mom POV here.

Yappy Hour 🐶

If your furry friend is craving a night out, bring them to “Yappy Hour” at The Yard tonight from 6-8PM. Leashed pups will enjoy some socializing, DJ music, and “Shackbugers” from Shake Shack. Which are just dog bones that allegedly taste like a burger. We’ve been a few times and it’s always dorky fun so if that’s your vibe, check it out.

August Storywalk

This month’s Storywalk is at Ritchey Woods. Walk the park while reading the book “Moth & Butterfly” by Devorah Petty. Learn more.

Forest Bathing 🌳

Need a breather? The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park is hosting a forest bathing session this Saturday, 10 AM–noon. This is a guided meditation, nature exploration, and even art interaction. Bring comfy shoes and water; they'll handle the bug spray and sunscreen. Who knew bathing could be so... dry? Tickets are $55 at Newfields here.

Bluey is coming to Victory Field

You will find Bluey and Bingo at Victory Field on both Saturday and Sunday. And if you go on Sunday, kids under 14 will get a free hot dog, bag of chips and a Capri Sun juice pouch. Get tickets here!

🎶 Live Music

Your weekend pick:

> Blink 182 tonight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse doing their “one more time” tour 🔥 Tickets here.
> Foghat (who is replacing Three Dog Night) headlining tonight at the Indiana State Fair at 7:30 pm

If you want to stay local, King Jugg has a few shows:

Country Summer | 8 pm Saturday
Danny Frazier & Scotty Fratcher | 4 pm Sunday

And if none of these shows are your thing, that’s cool. You can always find more live music venues list on our site below 👇️

Local Business

Smitten Kitten. Cats + Coffee ☕️

One of the adoptable cats!

I will address the elephant (cat?) in the room. This place is CLEAN. If you come to Smitten Kitten for a coffee or snack there aren’t cats roaming around on the counters or anything like that 😂 The space is divided in two by a huge glass wall for both the cats and coffee-goers.

The coffee's good, but the cats steal the show. You can watch them through the glass or book a play session (which we clearly did). It's "kitten season," so there are plenty of cats to meet. Thinking of adopting? This is a great place to find your new furry friend. They recommend reservations but when we were there on Friday it was wide open so your experience may vary.

Hidden Gem in Indiana: Blue Springs Cavern

Nate Spangle has a fun Instagram where he’ll ask people what are hidden gems in Indiana. Last weekend, he asked Dylan Sprouse at the red carpet premiere of “THE DUEL”.

His answer? The caverns we have. Specifically, Blue Springs Cavern which is about a 2 hour drive south. We’ve never been, so can’t say. But if it’s good enough for Dylan it’s good enough for us 🤝
