The Digest

Back-to-back?

The Indy 500 just unveiled their tickets, featuring back-to-back winner Josef Newgarden.

The Fishers basketball team is on a historic undefeated season - and just passed 40 wins in a row. They’re well on their way to a potential back-to-back State Championship themselves.

Coincidence? I think not.

Fishers says, "slow your roll" to rental homes 🏠

Fishers fielded questions about their proposed 10% rental cap during a webinar yesterday. Chief of Staff Jordin Alexander walked through the plan, explaining that existing rentals would be "grandfathered in" until ownership changes, with enforcement beginning January 2026.

📺️ The webinar is available on YouTube here.

Where things stand

LarryinFishers does a great job curating yesterday's summary of events. Below are public statements and their general position on whether this rental cap ordinance should happen.

Expressing concerns:

  • MIBOR (Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors)

  • James Briggs (IndyStar Opinion Editor)

  • Former Councilor Jocelyn Vare (hosted a separate town hall last night)

The City Council plans a public hearing and second reading at April's meeting. So you have plenty of time to form your opinions before then!

🦅 Where folks are coming from

Source: 2025 Redfin housing market search data

Speaking of housing, it’s a good time to revisit a topic from one year ago — where the heck folks are moving from (and to!) in Fishers?

Redfin regularly surveys 200 million users to create city profiles. One of those charts shows who they guess is moving to and from Fishers. This quarter’s data looks a bit… different.

The most surprising is that Chicago was previously the number one place people moved to Fishers from, but it is now the number one place people move to from Fishers! Lol!

CAVA Grand (and Pre-Grand) opening!

One of the last big pieces of the Whistle Drive development is opening its doors this weekend: CAVA. They’re a fun take on fast casual Mediterranean. Before the opening, there will be a community day this Thursday to try the food.

> Community Day tickets for this Thursday here

🥗 Fun fact: With this opening, Mediterranean (CAVA), Asian (Bibibop), American (Sweetgreen), and Mexican (Chipotle) fast casual restaurants are within very short walking distance of each other.

🏎️ For racing fans

ICYMI: Formula One Management and the FIA officially approved Cadillac F1 to join the grid in 2026. This happened shortly after Michael Andretti handed ownership and operational control of Andretti Global.

Work on the Cadillac F1 project is happening in multiple locations. Their 400,000-square-foot Fishers facility will house F1 operations, while Andretti Global's IndyCar teams will move to the former IndyStar printing facility.

Pizza Festival

Tommy Barrett is bringing us the pizza tournament we didn't know we needed. The local food TikToker (you might know him from "Starts with a Question") is organizing Indy's first Pizza Festival on Monument Circle this August 9.

So, for a $30 ticket that goes on sale Friday, you can try unlimited pizza samples and cast your vote in this cheesy democracy.
